Bike Computer Recommendation

Submitted by John Dutt on Tue, 03/24/2015 - 5:48pm

I am looking for a good basic bike computer that will give me turn by turn directions on routes that i can download from Ride With GPS. I don't need fancy bells and whistles - e.g., heart rate or cadence or watts, etc - I just want to see where I am going on a map and know when to turn so I don't have to go blind reading a cue sheet. What do you recommend? Thanks.

Prescription Eyewear

I have recently sustained an eye injury and am looking to invest in a good pair of prescription sunglasses to use while riding. Any suggestions? Where to get them from? Thanks!

Osteoporosis & Fracture Risk

Submitted by JJacobson on Mon, 03/23/2015 - 6:51pm

For us cyclists the question isn't  IF we will have an accident but WHEN!  In an accident someone with uncontrolled osteoporosis has a significantly higher proability of a bone fracture because their bones are brittle.  Onset or mild osteoporosis can be detected by a bone density X-ray and a weekly Alendronate Sodium tablet can control it and reduce the probabiity of a fracture in an accident by 50%.  Women "especially older" are at the highest risk I am sorry to report.

Road biking in Israel

Has anyone rode in Israel? I'm going to be there next week and would love to ride. Bike rental info would also be great.

Any info would be much appreciated!

FTSE 100 companies emerge as new breed of bike activist

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 03/22/2015 - 11:41pm
For decades, the main advocates for cycle lanes in Britain tended to be committed activists, often left-leaning types with impassioned opinions and oil-stained trouser cuffs. Now a new and more unexpected breed of bike activist has emerged: FTSE 100 companies.

Women's Cycling Program - Party for EVERYONE!

Submitted by Slugger on Sun, 03/22/2015 - 10:54am

I am super excited to be a part of Bicycle Habitat's Women's Cycling Program starting up this spring. Our goal is to take women through the entire lifecyle of having a bike - maintenance, fit, clinics, nutrition, skills...and obviously, rides! The ambassadors have a huge range of experience, from a bike fitter, mechanic, triathlete, mountain biker (that's me!), several racers, recreational riders, and commuters. To kick off the program, we invite all women (from "do I remember where my bike is?" to "gotta go defend my QOM, be right back!") to join us on a ride this coming Saturday, March 28. We have rides for all levels, from the equivalent of a short C ride to a pretty challenging cruise up 9W.
