Journal News April 8 piece indicates Rockland end will probably be near Exit 10 & Route 9W.  It doesn't indicate exactly where the exit will lead to.  9W is a fairly busy highway around there and biking it south towards Piermont can be harrowing.  The road is narrow and autos are moving along fairly rapidly.  In any event it looks like it will be ready in 3 years (2018).  I hope I am stil alive, biking and living around here then!

Bike tires and Rockland County roads

Submitted by mgeller1 on Tue, 04/07/2015 - 12:53pm

My Local bike store tells me my rear tire is pretty worn and should be replaced. It's only been 1,000 miles and it's a good brand, so I'm left thinking it's the roads of Rockland. Anyone else have similar experience. I replaced the last pair at 4,000 miles. I'm kind of surprised to hear I need to do this again.  Are the roads that bad?

Nyack's cavernous "Brickhouse" eatery

on S Broadway opposite the Y.  No more deli/cold sandwiches.  Now features hot sandwiches ($10-16), burgers ($11-12),salads($9-10), pizzas with 15 different toppings and heartier fare such as ribs (excellent), BBQ, etc.  They promise to open the outside rear section (& maybe a beer garden) in a few weeks.  Groups of more than 10 I recommend you call first 845-358-2170.

BikeRadar Review of Speedplay Ride-Wearable Cleat Covers (Finally!)

Submitted by edelk on Mon, 04/06/2015 - 9:45am

I just noticed this product review for "Keep on Kovers". I love my Speedplays but gosh are the cleats slippery on the ground. Yes, Speedplay makes rubber cleat covers but the on/off process is a slight pain and they are no good at stoplights (not ride wearable). KOKs seem the perfect solution (always-on grip) and seem to prevent any significant wear on the cleats, which can be damaged in normal use, sometimes beyond repair. Plus, they appear to offer more walking grip (rubber) than Speedplay's new version (plastic) without having to buy a new cleat set. Anyway, given the price and apparent advantages, I plan to order a set.

Jones Beach

Submitted by JJacobson on Mon, 04/06/2015 - 9:29am

Cycling on boardwalk permitted until April 30.    The trail from Wantagh to the JB stadium is in excellent condition.  There is a nice newish paved trail along the ocean parkway 4 miles each way to/from the stadium to  Tobay Beach. I assume that after April 30th cyclists can lock (a heavy, strong one!) their bikes to a metal fence, etc  either near the stadium or at the Tobay trail end and walk to either Zachs Bay, JB East Bathhouse or Tobay beaches.  BTW I worked there for 6 years weekends and summers when I was a HS & college student and I think it still is a treasure.

Best bridge to Brooklyn?

Submitted by Aleister on Mon, 04/06/2015 - 1:36am

Out of the three bridges the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridge which is the best bridge to take in the morning/late afternoons with the least amount of traffic? Now that the weather is getting better I'm trying to find a optimal route to my college and ditch the MTA. I've rode Brooklyn mid-day to see how traffic was and.. it wasn't pleasant with all the tourists waddling around aimlessly but I haven't rode through it in the morning or evening. Appreciate any information, thanks!

Submitted by nyccadmin on Sun, 04/05/2015 - 11:34am

Hey folks,

While most of us were hybernating this long and miserable winter, our Ride Librarians, Carol and Hank, have been hard at work revamping our NYCC Ride Library. Read about the improvements here. http://nycc.org/node/74580

We've got some more enhacements planned but we wanted to get feedback on the work we've done thus far, as well as thoughts on how we can further improve the Ride Library.

Thanks in advance,

The NYCC Web Team
