Berkshire Cue Sheets!

Submitted by J S on Thu, 05/07/2015 - 9:06pm

Hi folks, I'm curating the official cue sheets and RWGPS routes for the Berkshires weekend.

The existing routes are available here:
http://ridewithgps.com/groups/NYCC-Berkshires-Rides

A sample of the paper cues, generated by a beta variant of Roboviva, is available here:
http://snuggl.es/betaviva/pdfs/2387270.pdf

If you have any adjustments to existing cues, please let me know ASAP.

If you are a leader and you plan to do a variation or a new route, and want it in to go out with the Berkshires Info Packet, please get me a RWGPS link ASAP.

Citi Bikes on the UWS

Submitted by Cara on Thu, 05/07/2015 - 4:50pm

If you're interested in Citi Bikes coming to the UWS, the Dept of Transportation is having a Community Board meeting to discuss placement, etc.

May 12

7pm-9pm

Goddard Riverside Community Center 593 Columbus Avenue at 88th street

Transportation Alternatives is looking for bodies to fill the meeting: apparently there's a group that wants to restrict the docking stations and where they'll be placed.

Too bad the driver was high, otherwise he would've got off simply by having not seen the cyclist.

NJ Road Closures Sunday May 17

Submitted by RKlein on Thu, 05/07/2015 - 11:40am
The Gran Fondo is Sunday, May 17. If I am reading various signs along roads correctly, all the following will happen: Henry Hudson Drive (aka River Road) will be closed for the day (except to GF riders); 9W northbound will be closed from 7 am to 6 pm; and at least a portion of Hudson Terrace will be closed, not sure for how much of the day. So, if you are not in the GF and want to ride across the GW bridge, once you get to the Jersey side, you may not be able to use Hudson Terrace, you can’t go south and pick up Henry Hudson Drive, and if you find a way to 9W, you can’t go northbound. Westchester or LI, anyone? If anyone who has more/better information on road closures, please post.

Nice profile of Charles Komanoff, who has done so much for TA and cycling in New York:

thank you to the volunteers who helped clean up 9W

Submitted by GRoss on Wed, 05/06/2015 - 9:19pm

DOT has asked  us to clean up "our" stretch of 9W twice this year. We are trying to organize an effort for Saturday June 13.

The job is easy and fun. Volunteers appear at the Market on 9W at about 1:00 PM, we hand out trash bags, latex gloves and a map showing the approximately 1/10th of a mile piece we ask you to walk and pick up trash. The whole job takes about an hour.

A good way to do this is to lead or join  ride that winds up at the Market about 1:00 PM. The work is done quicky, there are refreshments and then a ride home back to NYC.

The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt

Submitted by AnalogStupidity2 on Wed, 05/06/2015 - 7:12pm

With the sad passing of Jobst Brandt today, I was reminded that I lent my copy of The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst to a fellow club member some time in 2006 or so.

If that happened to be you, and you have my book, can I have it back, please?  Thanks!

(It's Christian Edstrom, used to ride a Rivendell and a Pegoretti, and I lived on the UWS if that rings a bell.)
