you might want to stay off 34 St between lex & 5 Ave as they roadway is being repaved

Palisade Avenue will be milled and paved on September 17 & 18, 2015 

I am making a few videos and I need a dedicated pace bike that will have a go pro under the saddle on it,

I need the rider to be pretty strong and be able to repeat and power up GWB base at little red light house to top of Wash Heights and do that 3-6 times.

I get pretty good speed going. I’ll be spikeboarding.

If you are riding on 62nd, to get to the 59th St. Bridge for instance, be careful between 3rd and 2nd. There is a section of the road that has metal plates. There is an area near the middle of the road but on the right side there is a seperation between the plates that a tire can very easily go into and you will be hurt. If you stay to the right as you would if you were riding next to a car then you will be okay. But if the street is empty and you were nearer to the middle, or if you were switching from the left side to the ride side, or if there was a parked car with a door open that you were avoiding, then it can be very dangerous. It's also a relatively darker street with lots of trees.

read on another site, that this road is now closed due to a long term construction project. Can anyone attest to this or verify if this is true?

Rumors that Putnam County was going to pave some of their steeper hard pack roads have proved to be well-founded.

South Mountain Pass is the only pass over the ridge, which includes Anthony's Nose, south of Garrison. It had paving on the Route 9/eastern side but this did not diminish its wild feel. Under degraded conditions, the steep, unpaved ascent could be a challenge on thin tires and compromised gearing. Like the steam locomotive, those days are now past.

Surprisingly, the road looks narrower paved than when hard pack. Surely this is an illusion. Though the paving will make the climb easier, let us hope it does not encourage increased motor traffic. 

This road is a gem.

Looks like police were stopping and ticketing any cyclist not unclipping and touching their shoe to the ground where 505 meets 9W today. Saw the police out and another cyclist passed along the observation.

I noticed the other day that the detour signs have been masked and Hardenburgh is now open again off of Anderson.

I was stopped by a concerned motorist in Sparkill today who said that there is loose gravel on 9W north of The Market and she had seen 2 bikers lose control and fall just yesterday. Right after that our ride went up Kings Highway which was entirely covered in loose gravel. It was not good.

So watch out!

Also, why gravel? Is this some new cheapo way to fix the roads?
