Submitted by nyccadmin on Wed, 09/02/2015 - 2:27pm

We're looking to build a new version of out website. There's no better time for our members to speak up and suggest features and enhancements, as well as vote on the suggestions that others make.

To do so, please visit: http://nycc.org/website-suggestions

TA NYC Century

Submitted by michael on Wed, 09/02/2015 - 10:10am

I'm registered for the TA NYC Century on September 13 and it would be great to ride with fellow NYCC members. Is there anyone else out there who would like to do the route at a fast "B" pace?

Since this isn’t an NYCC event I can’t post this as an official club ride but if you email me we can arrange to meet and ride together.

CP Rules of Etiquette

Submitted by NMermet on Wed, 09/02/2015 - 7:28am

To the Bucknell cyclist in the blue and orange jersey this morning,

I assume you are new to CP.  Here are some general suggestions:

1).  We pass on the right, not the left.

2).  We most especially do not pass aggressively on the left when all other cyclists have responsibly slowed down for a car that has just stopped in the roadway.

3).  The one exception to passing on the right is at the very tightest apex of the Lasker turn.  In that case, if a paceline has less than one foot between themselves and the curb, we wait (ten, fifteen seconds?) to pass on the right.

Best,

Nicole

Bike racks on buses in NYC!

Submitted by CWaaser on Tue, 09/01/2015 - 4:28pm

The MTA is finally testing out the use of bike racks on buses, starting with a couple of lines that go over the Verrazano Bridge between Brooklyn & Staten Island.  http://www.mta.info/news-bikes-buses-new-york-city-transit/2015/08/31/racks-available-s53-s93-routes-1-year-pilot

All Velovie frames $500

Submitted by velofellow on Tue, 09/01/2015 - 3:20pm

Don't know if they're going out of business or just clearing stock.  Most of the road frames are gone, but they seem to have a decent amount of MTB, TT and cross frames left.

Anyone have GPS tracking on their bike?

Submitted by NWeissman on Tue, 09/01/2015 - 3:07pm

NYPD's Crime Prevention Unit reached out to inquire if anyone in the Club had first hand experience installing a GPS tracking device on their bike.  Example.

If you do, email me.  Thanks.

River Road: Tree fallen approx 4 miles from Entrance

Submitted by DrewO on Tue, 09/01/2015 - 10:05am

Just putting the warning out there. We came across it in the dark this am and had to pull brakes pretty hard to avoid it.

It was on a down hill just before the picnic area.

For some reason, I have become a priest to several ticketed cyclists who have sought me out for comfort, if not absolution. Here is the latest one.

Articles (for one: http://gothamist.com/2013/09/01/ticketing_blitz_of_cyclists_extends.php) two years ago reported the issuance of 33 tickets to cyclists in a single, but, granted, presumably untypical day.
