Bike Trains

Submitted by JSinclair on Fri, 09/18/2015 - 3:39pm

Is there a way to find out which Metro-North trains are bike trains please?   MTA.info says that "these trains are indicated on the published timetables"  however the Schedules section of MTA.info does not have a code for a bike train. An online method would be ideal if riding somwehere on a whim.

My annual, completely news-less Interbike Report

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 09/18/2015 - 1:32pm

Longtime readers of my Interbike Reports know to not expect a scintilla of actually useful news or observation. I'm delighted to announce I will keep that treasured record in tact this year.  I'm late getting underway this year and may write a report on the plane home tonight but hasten to give you this tantalizing tease as an appetizer.

The greatest and best change this year is there are far fewer tattoos. The greatest and worst lack of change this year is the industry continues to remain disturbingly white. One and only one black at a booth, at least that I saw: that was Garmin. And probably no more than ten, maybe only five attendees.

Here is an interesting quote of his:

"Life is like a bicycle: when one stops pedalling, one falls."

Escape New York A ride lead by team Lucarelli/Nyvelocity

Submitted by AOstroy on Wed, 09/16/2015 - 9:37am

Join us! For the 7th year in a row the Lucarelli/Nyvelocity team will be leading an "A" ride for Escape New York. All strong NYCC riders are welcome; not just those that are interested in racing next year. We will meet at around 6:45 AM at Sakura park and congregate right outside on the fence just south of the entrance, at 7:15 we ride. The pace will be steady and we will try to keep everyone together. It may get a bit more selective on the longer climbs, but we always regroup at the top. We’ll stop for all mechanicals, etc.

Bike Blockers

Submitted by cdc on Tue, 09/15/2015 - 5:38pm

Hi Everyone!

WNYC (who I work for--though I'm not on this project) is putting together a crowd-sourced map of bike lane obstuctions in the city. The goal is to document and track where and how problems occur, so we can bring awareness and hopefully improve conditions for bikers throughout the city. I figure some NYCCers might be interested.

If you see something blocking a bike lane, could you please snap a picture and send it [email protected]?

Make sure the location feature on your phone or camera is on. And to be doubly-safe, include in the email where you took the photo.

Podiatrist / Orthopedist

Submitted by ahalegua on Tue, 09/15/2015 - 2:37pm

Hi all -- I saw a few threads on this topic, which are a few years old.  So interested in people's recent recommendations on any podiatrists/orthopedists that people like and have a real understanding of cycling-related issues.  Thanks.
