Bent Spoke -- Safe to Ride on It?
Noticed that one of the spokes on my rear wheel was bent a little bit -- about 2 inches down from the nipple. Is that an unsafe condition, necessitating a replacement of the spoke, or is it ok to keep riding on it as long as the wheel stays true?
The spokes are the heavy duty double-butted ones, intended to stand up to our not-smooth city streets, and there are 28 of them on a HED Belgium wheel with a DT Swiss hub, if that matters.
Any thoughts?

Who has the ear of the Port Authority? the barricades on the NJ side of the GWB are not going away soon.
There is a new overpass being built on the NJ side of the GWB. (an existing one is being replaced.)
The plastic barricades that narrow the sidewalk on the NJ side of the GWB are not short term! They will be there well into 2018 or beyond as I have been told by a worker!
This is a dangerously narrow section. 1) We need an extra foot all along. 2) there should be no carelessly placed barricades that create a narrower pinch point. 3) there seems to be plenty of space on the other side for construction vehicles such that one more foot for us will not be an issue.
Can whoever has the ear of the Port Authority please convey this information.
Accident in CP on Thursday Evening
A friend of mine was badly hurt while riding in Central Park on Thursday evening, and is scheduled for surgery tommorow to address a spinal cord issue. (Although he is in a lot of pain, prognosis seems to be good). He was cut off by a kid riding a BMX bike, and went over his bars trying to avoid a crash. The BMX rider left the scene. Coincidentaly, the only other crashes I have personnaly witnessed in the Park involved the same kind of thing: kids on BMX bikes cutting across the paths of other riders. Curious to hear whether others have had experiences with the same behavior.
A rider of great, great skill is the worst rider I've ever seen on the GWB.
Around 1:30 Sunday. Heading towards NJ. Riding with both hands off the bar, both hands holding his cell phone, looking down at this cell phone, typing a text with both hands as he rode! And you can well imagine the urgency of his text since it was going to be another 40 seconds, or less, before he reached the other side. And you can imagine the content of this urgent text: something like: How'd the Yankees do? Or: There's a rider coming at me who's going to think I'm an asshole.
