Central Park Recreation Lane to be closed temporarily
This just in from the Central Park Conservancy:
"Starting Monday, August 14th, we will be performing repairs to a water main line that runs beneath the recreation lane on the Drive. The area of construction is located just north of the intersection where the Closed East Drive meets Center Drive at the SE corner of the loop; for reference, the cross street is E 66th St. The repairs will require us to close the runners’/pedestrian lane, which will necessitate cars and bikers having to share one lane of the road. We will have a pedestrian walkway created for runners and walkers. We anticipate the work lasting 2- 3 days."
Cyclists Break the Law to Stay Safe, Study Finds
We’ve all been there: an office party or backyard BBQ where you, the cyclist, end up defending cyclists’ behavior to people. Here’s a new piece of ammo: A massive new study shows that while cyclists do break traffic laws, they do so mostly in service of self-preservation.
Gran Fondo NJ
Hi all,
I won a free entry to the Gran Fondo NJ, which unfortunately I cannot use. Any takers? I'd hate for it to go to waste! First one to respond on this board, gets it.
Would anyone like to learn how to fix a flat tire?
Two of our Club's leading experts on the subject of fixing a flat tire, Peter Storey and Ed Fishkin, are going to lead lovely rides and teach us everything we want to know about flat fixing while we have lunch.
Peter and I will be leading a C13 ride to Scarsdale this Sunday, August 13. See https://nycc.org/node/84274.
Ed and I will be leading a B15 ride to Pascack Park, NJ on Sunday, August 27. See https://nycc.org/node/84193.
We hope you will sign up for one or both of these rides. We guarantee that you will enjoy the ride as well as lunch and the class.
Upper Nyack, Nyack State Park, Rockland Lake & Haverstraw
The rugged trail which goes directly from the near the ranger's house at the lower end of Landing Road (the wide steep paved road to Haverstaw) is closed, I assume temporarily during a construction project. Landing Road itself has a barrier across it about 1/3 of the way up. Cyclists can walk their bikes around it on a temporary stone 200 detour foot path. In addition the narrow shoulder on the northbound side of 9W just south of the newish viaduct is being improved.
59th Street Bridge to Kissena Park--Route Suggestions?
Does anyone have suggestions for the best roads to take in Queens to get to Kissena Park?
I'm thinking to do: Bridge-->Northern Blvd-->34th Avenue-->Skirt Flushing Meadows Park-->Kissena Park
Are there much better routes? Don't mind adding a couple miles for slightly calmer traffic.
Thanks!
I bought a tadpole trike & hate riding alone.
For health reasons the MDs say, "No more riding on two wheels; you can't afford another fall!" They didn't say anything about three wheels. So I upped and bought a Catrike 559 tadpole trike. http://www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11619516.html
Anyone in Manhattan/Queens/Brooklyn/Bronx also ride a three-wheel recumbent and want a riding buddy? Or do you know of such a person?
