Best place to buy cycling shoes?
Im pretty new to the cycling sport and have recently purchased my first road bike and even did my first century. But its time I invest in some good quality cycling shoes.
Where in NYC should I go that has a good selection to try on and compare?
Bad news about Jerry Ross
If there is a rider in the club who is ever considerate and responsible a rider it is Jerry Ross.
Sunday afternoon a pedestrian steps out from between parked cards. Predictably, the cop in the scene starts to write it up as "cyclist hits pedestrian" because, you know, we are always, always, always riding into buses, garbage and other trucks, taxis, cars...and pedestrians. That's just our nature, isn't it...well, according to the police.
Result: Ped is fine. Jerry isn't. Shattered hip socket. Surgery Monday at St. Luke's.
Any interest in a "C" ride from Brewster to the BX, or from the BX to Croton
Is there any interest for a "C" ride from Brewster to the Bronx (50 miles), or from the Bronx to Croton (38 miles) for this coming Friday, Nov 24th?
I'm willing to lead.
If Brewster, the ride will need to start early as we have to be on the 7:50am train out of Grand Central to Brewster. We will need to ride fast 13/14 mph as we will have to make it back before Sundown. This also means we might only do two stops instead of 3, probably around the 17 and 36 mile points, and they will be short around 15 minutes of less.
If Croton, the ride would start at 9am from the #1 terminus at W242 and Broadway. The pit stops will be around the 14 and 26 mile points. We could ride a little slower 12/13 mph as this is shorter trip.
Holiday Party-Sign In Volunteers
I am looking for a few good men and women...actually the more, the shorter the shifts. You would just need to sign in members and give out the drink tickets. Volunteers get the usually for their service. A much appreciated Thank You!

Red Light and TRaffic Crackdown
I presume in response to a recent accident downtown, the police were instructed to ticket cyclists. I was stopped and received a red light ticket. I did not give them my license, but gave them my NYC ID card. Not that I intend to, but what happens if I default (dont plead or show up in court)? I know if you are driving and you default a moving violation ticket, your driver's license can be suspended and you can get arrested if caught driving on suspended license. What is the recourse with a bicycle - particularly if the ticket doesn't have your license number? Can they still suspend your driver's license? Arrest you somehow?

Ride to World Rembrance Day
On the heels of NYCC becoming members of Transportation Alternatives, please join us this Sunday for a ride to World Remembrance Day for traffic victims at City Hall. This international event has become an important day for cycling advocates to speak out against traffic violence and push for safer streets. We wil first ride to Pier 40 and meet up with TA's Manhattan Committee at 11:00 and honor the victims of the Greenway terrorist attack. We will then proceed to City Hall for the mass event that begins at noon. The ride begins at 10:00 at the Charles Dana Center in Central Park near the Lenox Ave & Central Park North entrance.
