Eden Update
Had a nice visit with Eden on Sunday. He's walking around the halls of the hospital, mostly without a walker, talking, joking, complaining about the hospital food, the poor TV reception in his room and how he's itching to get home and back to work for the club.
He's still quite weak and clearly has a ways to go, but it was encouraging to see how much progress he's made already.
Curious about NYCC apparel
I was at Bicycle Habitat to pick up my leader's incentive gear. It turns out they didn't have the item. Could be a mistake (they believe it was stolen from the box of NYCC apparrels).
But I was a little surprised there's no extras. Every item had a list of names attached to it.
So, if one were to order (BUY) any of the jersey and shorts etc, one would have to wait till the next production run?
Does anyone at NYCC work with a non-profit looking for free bikes?
Know someone who is giving away about 10 bikes "in good condition." I haven't see them myself. You would need to pick up the bikes yourself. They're currently residing on the UWS. Let me know if you can use them and if you have any questions you need answered before committing.
Bike friendly route to New Paltz ?
I am looking to ride to New Paltz from Manhattan. I've leveraged the ride library/previous STS rides I've been on to create a route to as far north as Newburgh and then Strava's route plotter with Heatmap overlay to come up with this:
https://www.strava.com/routes/13796826
I have not ridden in the area north of Newburgh and would be very interested in some suggestions.
Thanks!

Eden Weiss
As some of you already know, Eden Weiss had a medium to severe stroke while attending the New Members event this past Saturday. He actually was driven up because he wanted to participate and make a speech to all riders. He was found near the bathrooms by by-standers who had already called 911 when club members found him. Dr. Ed Fishkin was summoned who cared for Eden until the paramedics arrived. He was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood New Jersey where he underwent surgery to remove blood clots in his left carotid artery and a branch on the left side of his brain.
Eden Weiss
At tonight's club meeting I asked Gerry Ross where was Eden. He had a stroke on the Newcomer's ride Gerry said. He will be at the Rusk Rehabilitation center Thursday or Friday. He is doing well.
Why do we allow one bike shop to paper the "Marketplace" forum
why are we allowing a for-profit bike shop to repeatedly post on our "Marketplace" forum?
"friend of the club" or not -- that should have its limits. A very occasional special is one thing but there is nothing special about most of these posts. Would we want every bike shop in the city posting their inventory? Luckily our other "friends" know better.
As you can easily see by looking at the Marketplace, one bike shop repeatedly advertises there (its been going on for years previously under a different name) and I don't think its appropriate. The "marketplace" should be for individual club members, not commercial establishments.
Bike box
Does the club still rent bike boxes? Model? Price? How does one reserve and obtain it?
Location in Bronx, Southern Westchester, or NE NJ for FTP Test
Hi:
I'm trying to locate some place in the NW Bronx, Lower Westchester, or NE NJ (Ft Lee, Englewood, etc) that I can use for a field test. I need a 3 mile stretch of road that is safe and relatively car, stop sign, and light free. The road should also be flat or have a consistent 1 - 2% incline.
I know about Floyd Bennett Field and the Kissena Velodrome. They are just at the opposite end of the city from where I live.
I know that the west side greenway bike path is not a safe place to do this test.
