Since seemingly DOT has stepped up it's game, having been even more busy for some time now with major improvements & attempts throut the city, and that Polly Trottenburg will be speaking at next club meeting.

ride before NY marathon

Submitted by jimbrehove on Fri, 08/31/2018 - 9:46pm

Is there info on the bike ride before the NY marathon?

Introduction: At the certain risk of wrongly leading some of you to think I may not be the complete sonofabitch I really am, here is a cordial email back-and-forth I wrote/received today. If you don't know the predicate to this, you had 15 more useful minutes in your week than if you do.

Do ENY riders get temporary club membership and website access?

Submitted by jzisfein on Fri, 08/31/2018 - 1:09pm

I recall reading that ENY registrants (i.e., those who are not currently club members) get temporary NYCC membership. If that's true, does temporary membership start at the time of registration or not until ride day? Does it come with website access including the ability to register for NYCC rides?

I am asking because we will offer an escorted 25-mile ENY ride with advance sign-ups. The escorted ride could be listed on Eventbrite but I'd rather have it listed on the NYCC website along with other C-rides. That would give these temporary NYCC members the experience of signing up for a club ride and maybe then they'll take a look at our other rides.

Has anyone seen the B SIG badges?

Submitted by gillavi on Fri, 08/31/2018 - 8:51am

Escape New York is the one day a year you can give back to the club and the larger cycling community.

If you don't volunteer with Escape New York this year, we certainly hope that you are planning to ride Escape New York!

The September price increase is coming up tonight. If you didn't register for Escape New York yet, this is your last chance to save on registration.

As usual, all net proceeds from ticket and merchandise benefit 'I Challenge Myself' and 'The Kids Ride Club'.

Local affordable wheelsets?

Submitted by MFulton on Thu, 08/30/2018 - 6:23pm

Apologies if this should be in the marketplace forum, but does anyone know of any local shops that sell affordable, aluminum rim, hand made wheelsets? There are several online shops that offer these, but I want to see if I can buy locally.

Why Won't Nic Respond to My Emails?

Submitted by Jfortune22 on Thu, 08/30/2018 - 4:58pm

Hello Again,

This will be my first year riding the Escape New York route.  Last year as a CSig graduate, I decided to volunteer first.  I was very excited with the registration opened, that I was on a plane on a runway and called my daughter and asked her to register for me because I wanted to be in the numbers for the discounted rate.

A week or so later my husband registed for the both of us.  Of course we didn't talk about this until months later and it was then that I learned that I have two registrations fully paid for.  I am going to give one of them to a friend of mine but wanted to know  how we can exchange the size of the Jersey.

Escape New York registration and packet pickup at the Rapha store

Submitted by gillavi on Thu, 08/30/2018 - 9:09am

Hello,

This year Escape New York packet pickup and registration will take place at the Rapha store in SoHo over the course of 4 days. This will allow us to better handle the number of registrants this year and hand out all the jerseys and other Escape New York merchandise.

Dates are September 17-18, 20-21. Hours are 6:30 -9:30 pm.

The partnership is one of the many initiatives we made this year to connect with the greater cycling community, expand the New York Cycle Club outreach and grow our membership.

Freezing Your Water Bottles on a Hot Day

Is this an "ok" thing to do, or do you create some sort of risk of ingesting plastic or other toxins when you fill and freeze your bottles overnight?
