A friend of mine in California is an elite rider with Team Novo Nordisk/Team Type 1, and he is coming to NYC for the World Bicycle Day event at the UN on June 3. They have graciously offered to invite any NYCC members (up to 7 or so) living with diabetes to join them as their guests at this event, and as an NYCC member I offered to help make this happen.

My friend is also going to join me for a morning ride in Central Park that Monday morning, June 3, and he would love to have as many NYCC members living with diabetes to join us on this ride, and in addition we are going to invite ALL NYCC members to join together to ride on World Bicycle Day to celebrate the bicycle, exercise and the global diabetes community.

If you know someone who is interested in biking, invite them to the Newcomers' Ride on Saturday, June, 1st.

Suggestion for a good mechanic on the Upper West Side

Submitted by SAndrews on Wed, 05/22/2019 - 4:23pm

I know this topic has been discussed in the past, but I could not find recent threads.  I am looking for someone who is skilled in doing ongoing maitenance and repair on a custom road bike with mountain bike crankset and cassette.  In addition, the drop bars and shifters have unusual padding that needs to be maintained.  Any suggestions for the UWS, preferably, but would take other suggestions.   Thanks.

hit by a green cab this morning

Submitted by mgeller1 on Wed, 05/22/2019 - 7:00am

jotted down the license plate called 911 but because neither my bike or myself were physically injured. the police do not define this as a crime and do not take action. they suggested i report it to 311 but they said if i want to take action this way i need to participate in a hearing. no wonder hit and runs are so common. little recourse.

How to sell a used bike?

Submitted by Sina on Tue, 05/21/2019 - 9:49am

This may sound very simple to you, but I have never done it.

How do you sell your used bike? I know Marketplace on NYCC.org and of course craigslist, but a bike can cost $1000+! Should I get cash for it? How the money transaction goes between two individuals?

Thanks!

Berkshires - new option for the cocktail hour only on Saturday night

Submitted by LWintner on Mon, 05/20/2019 - 7:20pm

5 people have expressed interest in coming to the Butternut Ski Lodge on Saturday for only the cocktail hour from 7-8pm (without staying for dinner).

We’ve worked it out so that they and anyone else can do so for $5 a head for cheese and crackers and veggies etc.  It’s a cash bar for everyone.

Manhattan's "aorta" (Fifth Ave)

Submitted by PJeffery on Mon, 05/20/2019 - 2:57pm

Fifth has been stripped from 57th to 51st (and from 42nd to 34th) for over a week now. I see the upper section is scheduled for repaving later this week, but no word on the lower portion. Sixth was recently repaved at Greeley Square, but they haven't yet repainted the bike lane. Seventh and Ninth Avenues currently have stripped midtown sections as well so ... arteriosclerosis.

In other news, the D-SIG is a terrific program!
