Greetings from Brooklyn. Weekday Riding in Prospect Anyone?

Submitted by MarcH on Fri, 11/26/2010 - 8:18pm

Hello All
I just joined the NYCC. I know its already the off season so to speak, but I was wondering if there was anybody interested in going for weekday rides in Brooklyn.

Here's the curveball: Typically I ride in Prospect Park on weekdays, starting anytime from 9AM to 3PM (I begin work at 5PM).
I know that isnt the most popular time for most folks, but thats just how my schedule works.
If that hasnt thrown you yet, read on...

I'm hoping to start riding in groups come springtime, or as soon as I'm back up for riding A/B 50+ at a decent pace. I'm coming off a knee injury and haven't been doing much extended riding, but I hope to change that ASAP and get back to my old routine (and maybe some new ones).

For Sale Castelli Volo Partial Jacket New with tags (medium) $80

Submitted by SGeist on Fri, 11/26/2010 - 4:11pm

Selling a white and black Castelli jacket. Size medium. Because it's a Castelli, I need a large. If you usually wear a small (or a medium but have a short torso), this size will be perfect for you (I weigh 160, I can wear it but the back is too short in riding position).
Great for 50-30 temperatures.
Will deliver in NYC.

SUNDAY 11/28, B17+/60, Social Climbers #10 “Pelham Parkway”

Submitted by NWeissman on Fri, 11/26/2010 - 12:57am

SUNDAY 11/28, B17+/60, Social Climbers #10 “Pelham Parkway”

START: Meet 10:00 AM at the Pelham Parkway #5 train station in the Bronx

FINISH: Before dark at the Pelham Parkway #2-5 train stations

LEADERS: Michael Notaro, Neile Weissman

WHAT: This is a fun one. Start with bike paths that trace the Bronx River up to Valhalla. Then north over the Westchester County Airport and south to Port Chester before a run to the Bronx and subway home. Ten miles between Valhalla and Westchester Airport sort of climb-y, otherwise flat. Few miles hard pack. Two food stops.

BACK STORY: Michael asked "Why do I always have to schlep down to the city? Can't we start at my place?"

Day After Thanksgiving Ride

Submitted by TLaskey on Thu, 11/25/2010 - 8:22pm

The forecast doesn't look too promising for tomorrow but beyond that, I've had the flu (or something similar) for the last 24+ hours and won't be riding tomorrow. If someone wants to step up and fill in for me, weather permitting, great. Otherwise, see you all next day after Thanksgiving.

A Question of Free Speech on the Message Board

Submitted by MGewirtz on Thu, 11/25/2010 - 2:20pm

Several days ago I posted a message on this board providing the web site for a law firm that is developing a practice representing cyclists. I did this in the interest of providing information to readers who have posted requests for referrals to attorneys in the past. I made it clear that my son is a partner in the firm. I assume there was some interest in this topic because the posting received a fair number of hits. A reply poster raised objections to my post indicating, among other things, that it appeared to be presented for personal gain. After giving this objection serious consideration I was going to reply as follows:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to the NYCC!!

Some things I'm thankful for:
Smooth rotating pacelines,
Short climbs and long descents,
SIGs and STSs,
Post ride beer,
And, I'm most thankful of all for the people I've met and ridden with.

A safe and healthy holiday to all!

George
