Schwinn IC Pro

Submitted by nycc_oldtimer on Thu, 08/04/2011 - 12:46am

A friend is selling a Schwinn IC Pro and I want to buy it so I can spin through the winter months. She wants $400 (delivered) and it's in excellent shape. Is this a good price? Is this a good unit for spinning indoors?

2 spots available for Mitch's Jockey Hollow ride

Submitted by BHafkin on Wed, 08/03/2011 - 6:04pm

Bob and I had to withdraw from Mitch's ride this weekend so there's 2 spots available. If you haven't done a "Mitch" ride you don't know what you're missing. The routes are gorgeous and the post-ride BBQ can't be beat; his generosity knows no bounds. This is the final ride in the series (unless we can talk him into 1 more), so don't miss out.

Note the killed cyclist aged ten years between the headline and the body copy of the story.

As for my cynical "Next!", the ol' "Driving with a suspended license" infraction, my reference is to this:

2 bike boxes needed from 9/1-9/13

Submitted by Johnhop on Wed, 08/03/2011 - 3:01pm

My wife and I are doing Ironman Wisconsin in a few weeks and would like to borrow a couple of bike boxes. We will happily provide you with some wisconsin cheese if you are kind enough to let us borrow a bike box(or if a small amount of money is preferred, we could probably make that happen too)from 9/1-9/13.

Please contact me at johnhop at gmail if you have one we could borrow.

Thanks,

John

Cycling on 9W

Submitted by MPalmer on Wed, 08/03/2011 - 10:33am

Hello everyone,

My name is Michael Palmer and I'm actually a reporter for The Record in Northern New Jersey. We're doing a story on 9W and its popularity amongst cyclists. I'm wonderinf if anybody has personal experience with the route and can tell me about any improvements that can be made, what problems typically exist on the route, any accidents that may have occurred or even personal anecdotes about experiences on 9W.

Thank you very much. If you want, you can also e-mail me privately at [email protected]

Sorry to say this but have noticed that members can and have signed up for more than one ride on a given day. I suppose they are hedging their bets .. But this has the result of freezing other members out of rides that would otherwise be opoen.

UPDATE: The prospects for this afternoon have improved over the last 30 minutes. The ETA for rain is getting pushed back, something that seems to happen regularly. I expect it'll push back more. Here are the hourly forecasts for Englewood Cliffs, NJ, both showing "Partly Cloudy" at 2pm, with 10% chance of rain. 3pm - 45% chance:

One way to deal with blocked bike lanes

From the NYT lede blog, with video: "Fed up with the number of luxury vehicles parking in a bike path along a main thoroughfare in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, the city’s mayor, Arturas Zuokas, released a video in which he uses some military-grade machinery to crush an illegally parked Mercedes Benz."
