At least it don't cost $8K ...
"Nick Turner drove past a group of 16 construction workers sitting on a curb, and 32 eyeballs locked onto the car he’d built. A guy walking into Office Depot laughed with delight and said, “I knew the economy was bad, but this is ridiculous!” Outside a bar the other night, drunk people were lining up for rides, hanging off the back of the car and asking how they could get one, too.
CANCELED - Pedal & Paddle - Coming September 10th
CANCELED - Sea Kayak Connecticut has withdrawn due to a scheduling conflict. We'll try again in late Spring 2012.
Join Ken & Marilyn Weissman on this all-class ride to Piermont, where we'll meet the folks from Sea Kayak Connecticut at about 10 AM. Then instead of the usual pedal to the Runcible Spoon, we'll paddle kayaks--under the Tappan Zee Bridge to Nyack--seeing all those beautiful homes we view along Piermont Avenue with fresh eyes... from the river side. Marilyn and Ken paddle this easy, scenic route monthly in season.
Westside Greenway Path- Any news?
Thinking about riding to work from 181st to Battery Park using the greenway path. Any first hand experience on the current conditions?
Where is the last stage of the USA Procycling Challenge airing today?
It was suppossed to be on today at 2pm on NBC but the storm has overtaken their broadcast. Anyone see where it is airing? On a side note: Versus has had a hard time getting the broadcast of the race without picture break-up, freezing and actually full on missing lots of the action. I was so looking forward to seeing the race brought to television and seeing the incredible mountain roads of the state I love, but I've been severely disappointed.

Central Park Report
Central Park is a bit of a mess - trees and limbs down across the road. They're not letting people in, so it's hard to assess the full extent of the damage. But crews were already out starting to clean it up before 11:00 this morning. I imagine the drive will be open to cars by tomorrow morning's rush, but there's no guarantee. I'll walk over there this evening and see if I can get a better assessment.
11:30 AM Sunday Report from Piermont
The usual flood prone areas are under water: the area and small streets around the Goswick Pavillion, library & post office. The main commercial street and the bike shop building area and parking lots are OK. There might one tree down in the village. Both roads along the canal (Sparkill Creek) Ferdon and one by Canzano's deli are flooded and closed. Power was lost during the night for an hour or two. Apparently the only connections with the outside world are up Ash or to Nyack. Piermont Community Market just opened--the only open store. I am sure that other areas near streams and hills are also flooded and have down trees.
A really spectacular Zen story.
A Zen teacher saw five of his students returning from the market, riding their bicycles. When they arrived at the monastery and had dismounted, the teacher asked the students, "Why are you riding your bicycles?"
The first student replied, "The bicycle is carrying the sack of potatoes. I am glad that I do not have to carry them on my back!" The teacher praised the first student, "You are a smart boy! When you grow old, you will not walk hunched over like I do."
The second student replied, "I love to watch the trees and fields pass by as I roll down the path!" The teacher commended the second student, "Your eyes are open, and you see the world."
