When the earth moved...

Submitted by CWaaser on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 4:45pm

Was anyone on the GW Bridge this afternoon during the tremor?  I'm curious what that felt like.  I had just gotten home and was doing a calf stretch against a supporting column in my apartment when it started swaying...weird.

Can someone send me Kevin Johnson's e-mail address?  I rode with him today and wanted to send him a quick note.

Thanks,

"Escape New York"...on a folding bike???

Submitted by mockykid on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 12:12pm

Hi All,

After recently getting back into cycling, I figured I'd register for the "Escape New York" event (50 miles likely)...the only issue being, I bought and have been riding a Dahon Mu P8 folding bike given I have no space in my apartment to keep a full size bike.

It's an 8 speed with 20" wheels, and I've been cruising around bike paths for the last couple of months and am not too concerned about the distance.  What I am concerned about is whether or not the terrain once we cross the GWB will be too much for my poor little dahon and make for too rough a ride!

Civil War Century on Sept 10- anyone going?

Submitted by abrowning on Tue, 08/23/2011 - 10:52am

Bill and I are driving down on Friday and staying at the Cozy Inn.  I know that last year a number of NYCC members did the ride, but we didn't find out until afterwards.  Is anyone else planning to go?  If so, why don't we meet for dinner on Friday night at the Cozy Inn in Thurmont, where registration is.  They have a great buffet dinner.   For those who don't know, the ride starts in Thurmont, Maryland, and goes through 3 Civil War battlegrounds, with approx 7000' of climbing.  A very nice ride.  Its posted on the Out of Bounds calendar.

Please sign up in advance on-line if you're planning to come out for tomorrow morning's River Road ride

If no one signs up before midnight Tuesday I will set my head on fire.

And no, I will not wait until the scheduled 6:30AM departure before self-igniting.

Morning Laps

The morning laps for B riders on Tuesdays and Thursdays sound like a great ride. Is there any shot of holding one of them on Saturday or Sunday? Just a thought. Thx!

Vintage bike repair recommendation

Submitted by RFranco on Sun, 08/21/2011 - 9:54pm

I am looking for a mechanic who is familiar with vintage bikes and parts to clean up and get my 1985 Bianchi rideable.  It has 1980s campy record components and modolo brakes.  Preferably someone on the UWS. Thanks!

Peter Odell ride

Submitted by jpiven on Sun, 08/21/2011 - 5:29pm

Just wondering if anyone will be driving down to Philadelphia for the Peter Odell ride that runs from PA to NY on Sunday, September 4.

I was planning on taking the train the day before but would welcome the company (and pay for gasoline) if anyone felt like driving down....

Great All-Class Ride

Submitted by BHafkin on Sun, 08/21/2011 - 3:15pm

Kudos to Brigitte and everyone else involved for a great event. I love the new venue. And a big thumbs up to Morene for getting us to the park just as the skies opened up. We got to eat while it rained and then ride home under sunny skies.

Looking forward to next year.
