Westchester Report

Submitted by CWaaser on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 5:27pm

I rode the South County Trailway from the entrance above Van Cortlandt Park up to Rte. 117 in Pleasantville.  One section of the first 2-mile stretch (before you exit to Cook Ave.) was closed due to a tree down, but the work crew said it would be open by tomorrow morning.  The rest of the trailway was passable.  The lower stretch starting at Tousaint was very clear - I think a street sweeping machine must have gone thru.  There was still one small tree across the path but there was at least 4+ feet of clearance under it, so I ducked and went under.  Other sections were strewn with leaf & twig debris but passable.  After the Rte.

Out of Bounds calendar- is it useful?

Submitted by abrowning on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 2:28pm

I'd like to get a sense of whether NYCC members are accessing the Out of Bounds calendar that I've been keeping up to date since the beginning of 2011.  Its published every week in the eweekly, and is also accessed on the NYCC website.  I'd like to know if people actually use it-  if not, there is no need to post it next year.  Thanks-

Central Park post storm caution

Submitted by Sir Roger on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 10:39am

The CP guys are doing a great job cleaning up the park but there are still areas of the roadway that are getting debris, some as a result of clearing activities.

I found this out this morning when a brig  (Branch twig) kicked up by another cyclist flew into my front wheel and took out a spoke.

Tuesday/Thursday morning laps in Central Park

Submitted by GRoss on Mon, 08/29/2011 - 7:10pm

Linda Wintner is out of town this week. Her ride is still on; we will gather at Engineer's Gate (5th Ave and 90th Street) as usual at 5:45 AM. I will have a sign-up sheet for anyone who has not signed up on-line.

For first-timers, I am easy to spot -- I'm the guy with the folding bike. See you tomorrow morning.

Hutchinson Atom Comp Road Tires (Black/Red) for sale

Submitted by KJohnson on Mon, 08/29/2011 - 12:46pm

I bought these tires and decided not to use them. I bought them on sale for $25 each (regular price $66) plus shipping. I will sell them at discount off what I paid - $20 each. This is a great deal if the color works for you. 347 385-0998

River Road entrance just south of GWB is closed with some tree fall near the entrance but not on the road.

Status of West Side bike path north of GWB

Submitted by Anthony_Poole on Mon, 08/29/2011 - 10:36am

This may seem like a silly question at this stage of the clean up, but does anyone know whether the path north of George Washington Bridge to Dyckman Street is passable, or is it strewn with fallen trees, limbs etc? I am guessing that if the latter, the clear-up crews have higher priorities, so it may take a some days to clear. For that matter, does anyone have information on what the path is like south of the bridge, down to midtown. I took the Subway this morning, but I am itching to resume the bike commute as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for any information.

minor debris on sides of road

1 tree down on one lane in Rockleigh--same in Demarest--I would expect them to be cleared today

River Road closed--Police said it would probably be a few days not a few weeks

Huge improvement in Piermont--yesterday's flooding mostly abated--stores and major roads open

I'll try to check out Bradley/Tweed this aft
