Photos of Jim Babbitt

Submitted by americ9597 on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 5:40pm

Hi everyone, I just stumbled across this message board in a google search for Jim Babbitt. I learned he passed away in 2005 and was a member of this club and very well liked. Jimmy was a good friend of mine growing up and I am crushed by this news. To me, it was yesterday. I am attempting to contact Maureen, his wife. I am wondering if there is any link to archive photos of him?

I would really appreciate a response. Thank you.

501 vs. 9W

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 4:16pm

I love the shoulder on 9W, but frequently opt for 501 or 505...slower traffic, prettier scenery, more variation on colors this time of year.  I did a 9W>340>501 loop today, and on my return on 501 there was a great reason for avoiding 501 during the week for the next month or so:  Trucks which vacuum up the leaf piles left on the street.  They suck the leaves in and the mess that ensues in the air is unavoidable unless you have a space helmet on!  My guess is, they don't come 'round on the weekends.  9W, however, doesn't do much, if anything, to clean up, so that won't happen there.

Wed morning Sunrise Laps ride

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 12:44pm

The weather forecast sounds horrible for tomorrow morning's Sunrise Laps ride.  It it's raining or the roads are wet at 5:30 AM, the ride is off.  I won't know for certain till then.  I won't have access to a computer tomorrow morning  so won't be able to post an "official game on/off".  Just look out the window, you'll know.

Hope to see you tomorrow morning. Though not optimistic.

Late-posted half-day ride, this Saturday (October 22)

Submitted by MHiller on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 11:45am

No worries if the fall foliage ride is more enticing, but I'll be leading a half-day ride on Saturday morning from downtown Brooklyn to Garden City, with return via LIRR. (Posted as the Grimaldi's-to-Grimaldi's ride.) Handy for anyone who can't commit to a full day of riding on Saturday or who might be locked out of foliage riding.

Signed up for Fall Foliage Ride #2 but can't make it?

Submitted by WWright on Tue, 10/18/2011 - 10:03am

As was the case last week, this Saturday's Fall Foliage ride #2 listings are fully booked.  And since we have arrangements with Metro North for train return to the city, we cannot add on additional riders or groups for this year's rides.

If you have signed up for Saturday's ride, however, and now realize that you won't be able to make it, please unregister for that particular ride.  That way, at least a few more people who have expressed interest might be able to participate.

The Triangle Ride

Submitted by MTownsend on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 6:07pm

Does anyone have any information on the Triangle Ride that leaves from Queens and heads out to Long Island?

I know it's a pretty fast group and I'll get dropped faster than a hot potato but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot at some point.

Thanks.

connecticut 20th shoreline ride

Submitted by drewski28 on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 3:18pm

I just checked with Metro North and they show the phone representative I spoke to  regarding the connecticut 20th shoreline ride states their event calendar as listing the event on  on October 22, 2011and not the 23rd.   I gave the representative the website with the information on the ride in case there is a miscommunication somewhere.

Just wanted to point this out in case there dependency on the NYCC end.  I have a metro pass that I purchased about 16 years ago and I was checking with the customer service agent to see if this is still valid.

Try to have a good day,

Andrew

Looking

Submitted by _Vojtech on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 1:11pm

I saw a woman in Prospect park riding a bike with 2 front wheels and a payload carrier that looked like it was made for kids in the front, between the wheels.

I don't think it was a Worksman or other industrial type delivery bike. The child carrier part looked like one of those trailers, only positioned up front.

I'm looking for a bike I can take my non-pocket-sized dog riding on. I like the up front or sidecar position, rather than a trailer.  If the bike were recumbent it would be even better.

South County Trailway construction

Submitted by JFinder on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 8:47am

On Saturday, 10/15/11, I rode the South County Trailway northbound from the city.  There is construction in Tibbets Brook Park.  Detour signs guide you out to Yonkers Avenue over a rough footpath.  After that, there are a few more vague detour signs, but they don't seem to lead back onto the trailway.  If anyone knows the timetable of this work, please post it.

I now know more about Canadian Snow Geese than the average American. One question; where can I get a gun rack for my Giant OCR AO?
