Free bike maintenence classes at 718Cyclery

Submitted by Cmoore on Thu, 11/17/2011 - 12:15am

I have just signed up for some free maintenence classes (Class 02: Brake and their Adjustments/Class 03: Drivetrains/Class 04: Bearings and Wheel Truing) in early to mid-December at 718c. Seems to be plenty of room for other NYCCers to join me, if they care to. I'd love to see some familiar faces from the SIG, in particular.

Bike storage proliferates in Manhattan offices

Submitted by BAshmore on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 11:18pm

I just came across this article in The Real Deal (real estate magazine) - some may find it interesting.

http://therealdeal.com/newyork/articles/bike-storage-space-proliferates-in-manhattan-offices-including-1330-sixth-avenue-340-madison-avenue-and-starrett-lehigh-owned-by-rxr-realty

(Actually it seems to be an article (in TRD) about an article (in NY Times) so apologies if this is duplication).

Please make sure you have your emergency contacts on your account

Submitted by Cmoore on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 11:21am

Hi there, newcomers, and seasoned vets. Over the last few rides I have led, there have been numerous participants who do not have emergency contacts listed in their NYCC accounts. This costs everyone time at the beginning of the ride, and could compromise your receiving the medical care you need. So please get your emergency contact information on file!

New Road Cyclist - Advice on bike

Submitted by uwsrider on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 11:52pm

Hey all.  I'm a long time cyclist, but entering the world of road biking.  Spent years on a MTB, and when moving to the city a few years ago, and having only room for one bike, I decided to compromise and get what is essentially a fairly quick flat bar road bike with 32C tires (what they now call an "urban" or "city"bike).  While its great for the city and I do get good exercise with it, I am feeling that its too heavy and tiresome (on hands) to seriously get into road cycling, group  and long (50k plus) rides.  So, I decided its time to get a "real" road bike.  I have good bike understanding -- can do  adjustments, tuning, cable/chain changes, cassette changes, etc -- and know a bit about road bikes, their gruppo leve
