Luna Cycles getting out of the business

Submitted by BRoss on Mon, 11/28/2011 - 8:20am

I always admired Luna Cycles as one of the few (only?) framebuilders who specialized in custom frames for women...and built by a woman, Margot Conover. Seem to recall seeing at least one Luna on an NYCC club ride (Carol, was that you?) and it was a beautiful bike.

But apparently Margot's decided to get out of the framebuilding business, and she's selling off all her tools.

Die Hard '11 Week 1: Not so hard. Not so dead.

HIgh 60's? Are you kidding? Really looking forward to riding tomorrow. Gonna start with A Classic Cue Sheet 1. Email if you want it--I'm not bringing a ton of them tomorrow. It's a "beginning" ride to a series if there ever was one. For those of you who will do the A classic Sig next spring, it'll feel like coming full circle in March except it'll be in November and probably warmer. We will absolutely hold the 19 speed so don't come all jacked up.

Riding early Saturday 26th from lower Manhattan, B17 pace..

Submitted by Downtube on Fri, 11/25/2011 - 3:08pm

I understand that rides may all be full for Saturday. I will be riding tomorrow, and plan to leave 8:30ish from the Lower East Side. I am considering a ride to Brewster via the South County Trailway, or a GWB, 9W, 501 thing out to Piermont. Would be happy for company if that pace (17 on the flats average rolling speed of around 14/15) works for you. I'm a lousy climber, but descend well, particularly after Thanksgiving. The Trailway requires a Metro North pass for the return. I’m not qualified as a ride leader, so this would be unofficial and NOT a club sponsored ride. Non-competitive, no paceline, wait on accents (for me) and breaks as required. Email [email protected].

Winter Cycle Classes

Submitted by talibaba on Fri, 11/25/2011 - 11:34am

Hey All,

I lead a cycling class for Crank Studios and I'm working on creating a winter class specifically for cyclists.  My manager and I are discussing offereing a discounted rate to club members (~$12 per class).  The caveat is that if a discount is offered, I'd have to guarantee a full class.

The workout would be offered during the winter months, starting the first week of January going through till March.   The class would be 75+ mins.  Day/time aren't set in stone yet, and I'd like some feedback from you guys as to what best fits peoples schedules.  I have availability to lead weekend afternoons or Thursday evenings.

So what do people think?    Interested???

Post-Turkey ride

Submitted by DHudes on Fri, 11/25/2011 - 11:26am

The ride is full.  In order to keep the group to a manageable size, we are not expanding the rider limit from the original 15  Please don't write to me asking to join beyond the limit.  I understand that both B rides this Sunday are full and that there is more demand than capacity of these two rides -- so I recommend that a couple of those who are interested quickly put together a plan using a route they know with a cue sheet from the library and list another B ride today.

IMPORTANT: Lobby Against Bad Legislation

Submitted by CWaaser on Thu, 11/24/2011 - 11:21am

The League of American Bicyclists has an online petition to stop bad legislation in Congress:

"The draft of the Senate's transportation authorization bill, S. 1813 Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act, includes language that would introduce a mandatory sidepath law on roads in our National Parks and other Federal lands. It requires cyclists on Federal lands to use a path or trail, instead of roads, if the speed limit is over 30 MPH and a trail exists within 100 yards, regardless of its condition or utility of the path. The provision sets a terrible precedent. Passing it would send the wrong message to transportation agencies that these policies are acceptable. "
