Best Route: BK to Montauk?

Submitted by JonPauley on Tue, 10/15/2013 - 4:22pm

I was wondering if anyone has a cue sheet for riding out to Montauk from Brooklyn.  Or, do you have a detailed map of a route you have taken?  Thanks!

Cabrini Bike Lanes

Submitted by CWaaser on Tue, 10/15/2013 - 2:14pm

The new bike lanes (both directions) are completed on Cabrini and 177th St., so we can now be both legal and protected approaching and leaving the bridge.  It's interesting that they put an eastbound bike lane on 177th St. - we now have the choice of turning right and going to Haven or turning left and going up to Ft. Washington.

NYCC does not permit the posting of evening rides in the park, so consider this the "formal invitation."

Clip in and roll out at 7:30pm Wednesday from the Boathouse for three laps along with a few Harlem Hill Loops mixed in. Followed by beer and burritos on the outdoor patio (indoors if too cold) at Chipotle on 52nd between Lex and Third.

An email stating your intension to participate, while not required, would be welcomed.

D&R Canal Overnight Trip

Submitted by J S on Mon, 10/14/2013 - 8:13pm

I'm looking into arranging an overnight trip next summer, and wanted to try and figure out the general level of interest.

The plan is a two-day trip to traverse the entire Delaware & Raritan Canal Towpath.  The canal route is mostly finely-crushed gravel and some dirt sections.

New / late A ride listing for Sunday 10/20

The autumn leaves in the Watchung area are turning so it's time for a ride out to climb some hills in Somerset County: Come Ride the Watchungs with me. We'll ride out from Manhattan, climb some hills then have lunch at a kosher restaraunt and ride down a bit for one last steep climb before we head back to catch a NJ Transit train home from Summit where the trains to NY run hourly at 42 minutes past the hour.

RWGPS claims nearly 4400 feet of climbing but reality is more like 4000.

It was good to have proper bicyclists there. I hope you all had a good time. It was a great party.

The champagne and Chivas, those hot electric motorcycles, wow! The new McLarens, and made to order bicycles.

Thank you,

Brian
