LaVueltaPR - January 2014

Submitted by SCalabrese on Wed, 10/23/2013 - 5:08pm
I registered for LaVueltaPR and I'm in the process of getting together a training schedule.  Anyone else doing LaVuelta next year ? Would love to be part of your team! or Anyone that have done it before that can share some training tips.  I'm currently doing my longs rides on weekends and I could also use the company and support to get out on the saddle especially in the cold days ahead! Thanks in advance!  Sonia

The Last Word on the Jersey Design Competition (probably not)

Submitted by Michael Toomey on Tue, 10/22/2013 - 5:16pm

I'm the designer of the colorful jersey with the large NYCC logo and gears & sprockets on it that seems to have generated some controversy. I have not spoken out before on this since the design authorship is supposed to be anonymous. However now that the voting has closed, it was time for me to respond to some comments.

Trouble coming to Snedens Landing?

Submitted by Komanoff on Tue, 10/22/2013 - 11:52am

Coming back from Piermont via Snedens Landing last Sunday around 1 pm, I stopped to converse with a local who was calling out to passing cyclists that soon we wouldn't be permitted to ride there. What she said should be concerning to members who, like me, prefer the quiet, serpentine climb into Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory to grinding, numbing 9W.

She had stationed herself on the north side of Washington Springs Road, which, as everyone knows, is the gentle residential two-lane road that runs for a third of a mile or so east from 9W before splitting into a Y whose right fork, Ludlow Lane, climbs another little bit before reaching the unmarked turnoff into Lamont.

Interesting article in the Times about frequency of bicycle accidents

Came across this article about the frequency of bicycle accidents. It points out the difficulty of determining the actual frequency of accidents.

Lappy Hour.... Night laps in the Park. Clip in and roll out at 7:30pm from the Boathouse for three laps along with some Harlem Hill Loops mixed in. Followed by beer and burritos on the outdoor patio at Chipotle on 52nd between Lex and Third. If too cool out, then we will eat inside.     Hope to see you there! -Rod C.
