George Washington Bridge Project
Has anyone posted about this yet? Yikes! "According to the Port Authority, in 2015 and for six to eight years following, the path to bicycle across the bridge will be closed or rerouted...Now, a coalition of bicycling advocates from New York City and New Jersey have teamed up to ensure this necessary maintenance work effects this bicycling route as little as possible." The Port Authority foresees the south path closing for 3-4 years. The GWB Project is working on solutions for the north path and its 171 stairs. Lance fatigue set in? Here's somethin' else, for Chris sake.
Little Chris Horner, sat in the corner...until Usada paid a visit.
If you want something more uplifting from today's NYT, there's this, from the Metropolitan Diary column:
Youth Cycling in NYC?
I have been a member for about 20 years (hard to believe, but true) and now my younger son (10 years) is getting into cycling (his older brother prefers soccer).
We have been riding together a little (last week on the Kissena track) and a few weeks ago we completed 30 miles of the Twin Lights Bike Ride. Quite an effort with his 20” bike.
I would like to know what options do kids have in NYC for cycling.
Are there clubs or groups?
Any information will be helpful.

Looking for a few good women...
No, we're not recruiting for the USMC... we're recruiting for "Your First 'A' Ride".
I know there are women in the club who are considering making a transition to 'A' rides... before anyone jumps on me, I also know there are men considering the same thing... but to the women, I point out that there are four (4) 'A' rides this Saturday. These rides are being led by eleven (11) leaders, eight (8) of whom are women. Q: where did these women come from? A: from the A- and A-Classic SIGs.
Just a little something to think about...
As of this posting, there are nine (9) spots remaining.

Side swiped today
I was side swiped today (might have been a livery cab but not sure) and went down on York near 64th St. They didn't even stop to see if I was ok. Luckily the car behind the offending vehicle stopped (blocked traffic) to make sure I was ok as did some passersby on the side walk. Luckily again, I was not hurt beyond a few minor scratches/bruises. My bike is bend out of shape though and I think a spoke is broken... it's in the shop...not sure yet what it will cost.
This is the first time this has happened to me and I'm wondering if I should be reporting it somewhere? I feel like it should be included in some citywide statistics.
I'd appreciate any guidance from more experienced than me club members.
Thanks,
I am standing for election as President
I am running for President of the Club. Read about my background, platform and rationale on the 2014 Candidate Positions page
There are two nominees for the club presidency, me and Neile Weissman. Neile is an able candidate, as am I. Neither of us has ever served on the club board or, to my knowledge, been a club officer. We both love cycling and lead quite a few rides.

Cell Phone Found on Fall Foliage Ride Today
A rider in our group found a smart phone on the road today during our fall foliage ride. The phone was found in the middle of Chestnut Ridge Road about 16 miles into the ride.
The phone's screen is shattered but it looks like it can be turned on, so maybe some data can be salvaged. My guess is that it fell out of someone's pocket.
Please contact me directly if this is your phone.
