Central Park Cyclists Beware! Guidance on Unleashed Dogs in Central Park
(This topic has been covered previously on this forum, but not for a while. It came up on a recent Strava posting by Rick Snyder, so I thought I would amplify and restate here).
New York is the only state in the country to follow an archaic two-hundred year old rule holding that there is no cause of action for negligence when a pet animal causes bodily injury, unless it can be shown that the pet owner was on notice of the animal's "vicious propensity" beforehand. In practice, this has meant that the owners of unleashed dogs who cause Central Park cyclists doing laps to fall and be injured have no responsibility to pay for medical bills or other compensation to the cyclist.

Welcome Julie Blackburn Our New NYCC Librarian
I am very happy to report we have a new NYCC librarian. Welcome Julie Blackburn!
Julie is an experienced ride leader of B & C rides, former Board member (C-Rides Coordinator), and she has created many new routes for our library mostly in the five boroughs and inland New Jersey.
As Julie comes on board, Carol Waaser, who with Hank has been our longtime co-anchor and co-creator of the great resource the library is today, will be taking a sabbatical. Though as librarians I have no doubt we will be tapping into Carol’s unparalleled knowledge of our library, going forward new ride submissions and/or library thoughts and feedback should be directed to just Hank, Julie and me.
Any interest in a Just Bear Mountain Ride?
Hi.
I wanted to know from the C-Riders, if there is interest in a Just Bear Mountain ride for Saturday, Nov 13th? This was the ride we did on October 2nd: https://nycc.org/node/146534, it would be the same ride, same conditions, etc.
Thanks

Whatever is the unopposed presidential candidate talking about in her statement?
Leora writes in her statement of candidacy: "my first attempts to volunteer were met with crushing rejection in the pockets of the club where young women aren't welcome."
Huh? What? Where? How?
(I deliberately omit "By who?")

Club clothing?
What happened to options for buying NYCC club apparel? Seems odd to not offer such, there are dozens of places that can provide online storefronts to do so.
I see mention of a new design being considered back in the March board meeting club minutes that a new design was being considered, but why until that was accomplished was the current/older design taken down? FWIW, no further minutes have been posted on the site since May.
Pearl River's Muddy Brook Cafe has been replaced by Pom Pom Breakfast & Bistro opposite the train station
Muddy Brook Cafe had been an NYCC favorite and "Muddy Brook" was the ancient name of Pearl River
