central park crash monday may 28

Submitted by graham1 on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 10:54pm

hi, this is a long shot, but i am trying to find anyone who may have witnessed a crash at around 7 p.m. monday may 28 on the central park drive just before wollman rink where the road narrows, and there's an exit to central park south. a male cyclist in a light blue/silver racing jersey with a star of david on the back cut off my friend, and caused her to brake suddenly. she flipped over her bars and suffered a broken left arm and road rash. she'll be out 6 weeks. this cyclist had been veering in and out of a crowded road earlier at fairly high speed. worse, he clearly heard the crash but didn't bother to stop. if you saw it, or recognize this rider, please let me know. thanks.

Many thanks to the organisers, the ride leaders and support. New friendships developed and lots of fun in the sun was had by all.

Here is the link to all the photos Alyse and I took on the ride and at Egremont.

Feel free to download all the pictures. Just follow the instructions.

My Day in Court for riding my bike ONE BLOCK on a Queens sidewalk

Submitted by Rmarcus on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 4:42pm

Before I start, let me say one block or one mile I guess it's all the same. But trust me gang there was no one walking on the sidewalk.

I received a summons in March and my court date was May 22 at the Queens courthouse located in  Kew Gardens.

I did some homework via google regarding the summons which was given to me when I tried to avoid a bad U-turn area at the end of Queens Blvd in Jamaica near work.

The general info I gleaned before the case was:

a) I should have no effect on my drivers license, but should keep an eye for errors.

b) The Environmental Control Board is really the venue that should decide my fate.

Bon Ton Roulet in Finger Lakes: July 22-28

Submitted by DScher on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 1:09pm

I was thinking of doing the Bon Ton Roulet in the Finger Lakes this July and wanted to see if anyone else in the NYCC is considering going.  If nothing else, it could be nice to coordinate getting up to and back from the Finger Lakes (i.e. splitting a car rental, etc.).  Even better if someone would want to ride together at ~A20 pace.

Also, if anyone has ever done this event, I'd welcome any feedback you have from the experience, thanks.

Choosing A Touring Saddle? Need Your Advice And Assistance.

Submitted by iguana on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 9:35am

Hi All -

Getting strong messages from my butt that it's time to upgrade my saddle.  Since I'm in theory going on some loooong touring trips I figured I'd go with one of these http://www.brooksengland.com/catalogue-and-shop/saddles/touring+&+trekking/ but no idea how to select among them.  I have a Trek 520 that I'm THRILLED with if only my butt didn't ache . . .
