NYC to Sleepy Hollow

Submitted by Cdaley on Tue, 10/16/2012 - 8:30pm

Does anyone have a cue sheet from NYC to Sleepy Hollow and back?  I remember a past all class ride but can't find a cue sheet for it.

Thanks!

Saturday's Fall Foliage Ride #2: START TIME CHANGE FOR B17 / A19 GROUPS

Submitted by WWright on Tue, 10/16/2012 - 11:49am

Please note that the B17 and A19 groups for this Saturday's Fall Foliage Ride have a NEW START TIME.

These rides will meet at GCT @ 8:20 and will board the 8:48 train to White Plains.  The B15 groups will meet at 7:20 and board the 7:48 train to White Plains, as previously listed.  We are doing this to lessen the burden on Metro North.

Thanks, and see you on Saturday.

200K Central Jersey Brevet ... 10.14.2012 and other Randoneuring News

Here is a link (google+, posted to Facebook as well) to photos taken on this past Sunday's brevet out of Grover Mill - West Windsor, NJ.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/100645854060864224972/albums/57996998...

The ride was as flat as you can get on a brevet and a good route to start on if you haven't ridden 125 miles or completed a brevet. There must have been 30+ at the start.

I rode with Leroy Varga (85 years), Laurent Chambard and Jonathan Levitt. If you think you are too old to complete a brevet, take inspiration from Leroy. He completed the road more than comfortably. He's amazing ... does NOT look his age at all.

The ride took us through the Pine Barrens. We had nothing but sunshine all day.

Bamboo Bikes...What's Next? Cardboard!

Submitted by JHunt on Mon, 10/15/2012 - 5:15pm

Here's a link to an artcile about an Israeli inventor who built a bike almost entirely from cardboard. It should cost no more than about $20 to buy. The cost of materials used are estimated at $9 per unit.

Spoke insurance for cyclists

Submitted by David Brabyn on Mon, 10/15/2012 - 4:44pm

Has anyone signed up for cycling insurance by Spoke Insurance yet? Good or bad feedback?

Since the Bicycling mag article they appear to have added NY. Cost (for physical damage and liability) for one bike is about 10% of bike cost + 7-9% on top for New York.

Not much new information here, but to hear it from the mouths of people involved made it hit me a lot harder.

Tuesday 10/16 Pickup Ride

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Mon, 10/15/2012 - 11:14am

I may go to Oyster Bay tomorrow... I would like company, figure A-19/20, you should be willing and able to share the work (or at least hold on if you can't)... only one problem; I have to call in for jury duty later today, if I have to report, no ride :(

B4 you ask, "why not ride with Sabina and Basil?"- I would, except I need to be home earlier than that ride will allow...

70 miles, 8:30am start from Queens... hit me here (or here: george dot arcarola at gmail dot com) if interested... will let you know about jury duty when I get home tonight (around 7pm).
