Greg Lemond request for help....

Submitted by citycyclist on Thu, 10/25/2012 - 12:29pm

Greg Lemond's astounding Facebook post of earlier today

This is edited....please go to his facebook page for all of it.......

I want to tell the world of cycling to please join me in telling Pat McQuaid to resign. I have never seen such an abuse of power in cycling's history- resign Pat if you love cycling. Resign even if you hate the sport.

A work in Progress...My thoughts on the NEW Central Park Bike/Car Lanes

Submitted by Rmarcus on Thu, 10/25/2012 - 9:47am

October 25,  8:00 am Commuter to Jamaica...

I'll make my notes as I use the park simply because the new lanes are not complete plus there will be differences in my opinion based on time and day of the week.

Coming into the park at the north end I find that the the lanes are pretty much complete and the DOT was working on some cycling road markings that were not done correctlly.

Seems that everyone is falling into place and using their lanes. Of course I am not sure what happens in the wee early hours when the fast lap rides do their things.

Friday getaway

Informal B ride in formation.

I'm thinking to head north on the trailway above Van Cortlandt, maybe White Plains, toward Brewster. That's the uphill direction. See the beautiful leaves in 60s temps. Fixed-gearable. Relaxed pace.

I have to be home by 4:30 to feed and get to work, so a somewhat early start in the morning.

Anyone interested?

Announced today.  $60mm yr 1, $10mm yrs 2-5.  Largest ever donation to a park.  Purpose: "help renovate park facilities and pay for recreation programs" -- specifically, improving the entrance on the park's southwest corner (presumably Columbus Circle entrance), comfort stations, five visitor centers, recreational activities and youth and family programs.

...... sorry, no velodrome.

Best route from Nyack to Bear Mtn?

Submitted by edeuser on Tue, 10/23/2012 - 2:37pm

Anyone have a recommendation for a good way to get from Nyack to Bear, maybe a little off the beaten path?  I'm sick of just taking either 9W or the Nyack Beach Park trail to Bicycle Route 9 through Haverstraw.

Looking for something a little more scenic/interesting (that doesn’t involve gravel).  I suppose I could go S. Mountain to Little Tor, but wouldn’t know where to go after Rampo Rd.

Cycling in Sikkim for Christmas?

Submitted by LWintner on Tue, 10/23/2012 - 2:04pm

I have been researching some intriguing bicycle trips to Sikkim (Northern India) and Northern Thailand over Christmas/New Year's.  These trips are run by SpiceRoads Cycle Tours.

SpiceRoads will guarantee departure if at least two people sign up.  Is anyone interested in doing one of these trips?  If so, please email me privately.  You can check the SpiceRoads website for info (www.spiceroads.com) and I have itineraries I can email you.

Regards, Linda
