Stolen Bike

Submitted by BMcCay on Sun, 10/14/2012 - 9:01am

Went down to get my bike this morning and it has been stolen from my building.

If anyone see's or hears about a polished Titanium frame traditional shape not compact. Campagnolo 10 speed carbon fiber group, 13-29 medium der. Stella Italia seat. Brand new Michelin Race 3 black wall tires on black Mavic Open Pro rims with Record hubs. No branding on the frame, it was made by Sandvik.

If you hear or see of anything like this please email, [email protected]

Thanks,

Bryan

I'm intending to keep riding to work until there is ice. But was wondering if studded tires really work?

Bike Thief Leaves Handwritten Note

This was too interesting not to post.  This link is from ABC news.  How bicycling captures the best and worst in us.

Interesting factoid, even in Central Park.

“Traffic accidents are down year-to-date. However, bicycle accidents are up 2.7 percent,” McCarthy said. The worst precinct for accidents involving bikes is the 90th, which covers Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood and saw 113 accidents through September 23. This was also the most deadly precinct for cyclists last year. Central Park comes in second, with 98 accidents so far this year — 91 of them involving a motor vehicle hitting a bike, and seven where a bike hit a pedestrian.

Re Tomorrow's Fall Foliage Ride #1: Croton Dam / Peekskill

Submitted by WWright on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 2:33pm

Tomorrow is the day of our first Fall Foliage ride, to Peekskill via Croton Dam.  Here are a few things to be aware of if you are riding this route tomorrow.

Fabulous fish!

Submitted by CWood on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 1:24pm

A fun Friday mini-adventure, with entry to a paradise of smoked fish! My $45 budget (a fortune at present) got me a half-full backpack of herring in wine sauce (64 oz, plus some Finnish tidbits), a pound each of salmon and trout, and an incredibly tasty whitefish salad that is already half gone.

The Brooklyn Bridge was almost tolerable on this cool cloudy morning. We saw some awesome automotive bottlenecks out there, which for me began with Comic-Con at the Javitz. I figured something was up when I saw crowds of adult men crossing 34th St. in superhero costumes.

Unnoticed was that all three trippers had names with "ara" in the first two syllables.

Thank you Yehudit for this wonderful morning!

Putnam Trailway directions or cue sheet

Submitted by CHelfet on Fri, 10/12/2012 - 9:24am

I'm planning to do the Putnam/North County/South County Trailway ride to the Bronx this weekend or next (yes, I know, I just missed this very ride).  Would somebody be good enough to pass along either a cue sheet or directions to the Putnam Trailway from the Brewster Metro North station along with lunch suggestions -- thanks!
