For a feature story I'm writing for the NY Times, I am looking for people who commute by bicycle in the winter from beyond the five boroughs into any point in the City.  I'd be particulalry keen on finding someone from LI or CT.  I have lots of NJ folks.  If you fit that description and would be available for an interview, please contact me here or at [email protected]

Also, for above story, I need:

A helmet cam

A major bike light

I do not ordinarly record my rides or choose to ride in the dark, so I don't have these--but I am doing some participatory journalism and need both for this story. If you would be willing to rent/lend out for a day, I would super appreciate that.  Thanks!

Canceled: Lake Tappan for Sat Jan 12 2013

Submitted by dianegoodwin on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 7:42am

Good Morning,

I've canceled and notified all registered riders for this morning's Lake Tappan B15.

The roads are wet in Englewood this morning at 7:30am. Since this isn't a brevet,
we do not have to ride in cold and wet. It is not a good feeling for us or our bicycles.

Sunday's weather looks good: B15 Lucky 13 - Franklin Lakes 50 miles.
For those who registered, you will receive a cue sheet and map link this morning via email.

Cheers and have a great day!

Diane Goodwin

Vince Lawler's ride was overflowing with those shut out of it; so a Part 2 has been added off the back of it, 5 - 10 minutes behind the engine. 9:35 Engineer's Gate. River Road, Sneden's Landing, The Market, turnaround, 501, Churchill or Walnut.

Last-minute ride listing - to Scarsdale tomorrow for lunch.

Last-minute ride listing.  B 16-17 to Scarsdale for lunch, about 25 miles.  Starting from the end of the #1 line (242nd & Bway), we'll take a leisurely ride over scenic hills and grab lunch at Lange's Deli in Scarsdale.  We'll follow Carol Waaser's scenic route from last year.

Starting at 10 a.m. so I can sleep in a little while, and so that lunch will come at the right time.

Ride listing will appear soon.  http://nycc.org/node/60592  If not, just show up.

Hello Everyone and Happy new year,

This is my first post and I was hoping for some direction in the purchasing my first road bike.  Just some info about me, I'm 5'6 and 180 pounds.  I'm completely entry level, my goal is some group rides and maybe some small events in the NY and hoboken area.  Trying to change my routine instead of just running every week.  I have no experience with road bike however i have been researching the past several weeks and speaking with co workers.  At this point here are my findings:

This sounds like a worthy cause if anyone is interested in the ride and raising funds.

The Statue of Civic Virtue, beloved Queens pre-ride gathering spot, has lost its statue.

Late Evening CP Laps

Submitted by bmelman on Thu, 01/10/2013 - 3:27pm

Anyone interested in late evening laps in CP, like 3 laps from 9pm-10pm? Was out there last night, totally empty and great for a quick ride.  I head up there from downtown, could meet anywhere on the wsh or on the loop.

Mondays and/or wednesdays are usually best...

Recommended Bike Tour Companies For New York-Boston Bike Ride

Submitted by pcliffie on Thu, 01/10/2013 - 11:31am
Hi, I am trying to organize a corporate charity ride for 40-50 riders from my company from NY to Boston in June. Would anyone know of -or recommend- bike tour companies set up to map route and oversee logistics (rest stops/refreshments, accommodation, mechanical support etc) and provide guides/team leaders for such a ride? Thanks Paul Clifford
