Bishop's Birthday Ride ... minor revisions

Submitted by jpiven on Thu, 12/27/2012 - 10:39pm

Hi Folks,

FYI, Bishop's Birthday Ride will begin at 9:30, not 10.

We'll be meeting on the NJ side of the GW, so don't be late!

Afterwards we're having dim sum at Jing Fong in Chinatown, so get your cabooses there by 1:30 and be prepared to sing Happy Birthday in Dutch or one of the Chinese dialects....

Arrive on time (to the ride and / or dim sum) or Sinterklaas will mete out his traditional Christmas spanking and deport you to Barcelona....

Studded tire ride listed for Sunday

The presumption being that plowed dirt roads with overnight freezing should provide for some pretty decent snow-ice cycling. The "necessities" include a mountain bike with disc brakes, lights, fenders and heavily studded tires.  Plus winter apparel-footwear:

If you're going "all in", then something like a Surly Pugsley or Moon Lander with double studded tires mounted on 4" rims.

Feature request for ride management: SMS broadcast

Submitted by DHudes on Wed, 12/26/2012 - 12:40pm

Leaders already have the excellent feature to send e-mail to the ride participants from the ride management interface. Unfortunately, not everyone has mobile e-mail or checks e-mail or the message board the morning before a ride. For late-breaking changes (even if they were done 9-10 hours in advance people could still miss it), the ability to use a web form to send a text message (SMS) to ride participants could prove quite useful. As with all such things it depends on good data: this feature assumes that partiicpants have entered a valid mobile telephone number in their profile but those who do not check their e-mail or the message board and do not have a mobile phone simply assume the risk that they show up for a ride which has changed start time or location or cancelled.

Old board/New board

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Mon, 12/24/2012 - 4:57pm

I would like to take a moment to thank the 2012 NYCC board for its service and to welcome the folks who stepped up to the plate and took on the role for 2013.  It has been a pleasure, personally, to have served on a board whose sole purpose is to give back to a community which asks very little of us, but works so hard to make things better.

Congratulations to Jay Jacobsen

Congratulations Jay on achieving your 2012 goal of riding 9000 miles as of yesterday. And, for leading a terrific ride today, even though I did bail early.
