A SIG Century

Submitted by aluna on Mon, 01/14/2013 - 12:55pm

Just curious if anybody knows the official day for the A SIG 2013 century ride? I heard that last year it happenned the day before the Gran Fondo NY. Wondering if that will be the case again this year.

Bar Mitts on group rides?

Submitted by MGately on Mon, 01/14/2013 - 8:22am

I'm curious what others think of Bar Mitts on group rides. They're currently promoted on the NYCC home page, and are the lead story in the weekly email, in connection with a raffle at the February club SIG/STS meeting. But when someone wore them on a ride I did a few weeks ago they struck me as unsafe - no hand signaling of obstacles or turns - not a wheel I'd want to follow.

Fog before BBQ from WTF!1302 Dirty Aunt Hack.  Also, 110' climbing per mile in the mud.  Beauty don't come easy.  Neither does brisket.

Where to rent / borrow a penny farthing or a tall bike?

Submitted by arvi on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 9:27pm

Anybody have helpful thoughts on where one could rent either a penny farthing or a tall bike (welded double frame sorta thing) for a couple of days (for an event)? I already tried contacting Worksman cycles, but they only sell PFs and won't rent me one.

Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks!

iPhone 5 handlebar bracket

Submitted by EODonnell on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 7:00pm

Would anyone have recommendations for a handlebar bracket for an iPhone 5?

For a feature story I'm writing for the NY Times, I am looking for people who commute by bicycle in the winter from beyond the five boroughs into any point in the City.  I'd be particulalry keen on finding someone from LI or CT.  I have lots of NJ folks.  If you fit that description and would be available for an interview, please contact me here or at [email protected]

Also, for above story, I need:

A helmet cam

A major bike light

I do not ordinarly record my rides or choose to ride in the dark, so I don't have these--but I am doing some participatory journalism and need both for this story. If you would be willing to rent/lend out for a day, I would super appreciate that.  Thanks!

Canceled: Lake Tappan for Sat Jan 12 2013

Submitted by dianegoodwin on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 8:42am

Good Morning,

I've canceled and notified all registered riders for this morning's Lake Tappan B15.

The roads are wet in Englewood this morning at 7:30am. Since this isn't a brevet,
we do not have to ride in cold and wet. It is not a good feeling for us or our bicycles.

Sunday's weather looks good: B15 Lucky 13 - Franklin Lakes 50 miles.
For those who registered, you will receive a cue sheet and map link this morning via email.

Cheers and have a great day!

Diane Goodwin
