Is this an OUTRAGEOUS charge to rent a bike for a day? Or is this competitive?
Someone from California joined the NYCC just to be able to ride with us when she visits NYC (only once a year and just these past two years). She rented a terrific bike and rode with us yesterday. Rental price: $150 a day!!! That seens OUTRAGEOUS to me (three exclamation points, bold, and caps outrageous). Is it? Or am I, in my dotage, so out of touch with things today and that is competitive? (She rented from Toga.)
The Syosset Fire House
.
Is no longer available as a trusted and spaceous pit stop. The doors are locked to cyclists (I mean the "General" public) due to our messiness (I mean "security" reasons).
They taped a sign at the front door. I guess that makes it legal.
Cancelled: Honoring Our Father Ride
Due to the confusing (and wet) weather, we are cancelling this ride. But we may do next Saturday. Check the ride listings... Sorry we can't do today!!! Leonora and Ellen
Bicycle Sunday change
Due to heavy rain in the morning which is forecast to end by 1PM, we are not going to be able to bike up to Scarsdale to make it onto the Parkway in time (bikes have to be off by 1:50 pm). My alternate plan is a 1PM start using the original route to Scarsdale Road and continue north on the Bronx River Parkway to White Plains where we resume the original cue sheet. The return will also use the Greenway in lieu of the Parkway.
This is subject to the rain actually stopping as forecast. If at 12:30 pm its not tapering off...

Rain. Unfortunately.
Rabbi Judith
On the eve of my Backroads Stockholm-Copenhagen bike tour I had a gettogether with her in Stockholm. She seems to be very happy as the first female chief rabbi of Sweden. I told her that when she returns to New York for a visit I would arrange a NYCC group ride in her honor.
New Frederick Douglass Blvd bike lane
The DOT recently painted a new southbound bike lane on Frederick Douglass Blvd from 121st st to Central Park North and put a fresh coat of paint on the existing northbound lane that covers the same streets. Both connect with the St Niicholas Ave bike lane. It makes riding to and from the northern end of Central Park easier.
Quickie Bear route question..
The couple of three times I have ridden from GWB up Bear and back I have taken the RR > Alpine > Piermont through Nyack and up onto 9W at Toga. Then at Haverstraw done the squirly road down and gone through Haverstraw and then back up to 9W.
If I Just stay on 9W after Toga Bikes is that safe or do I need to do the Haverstraw stroll..??
