July 4th weekend

Submitted by GRoss on Wed, 06/24/2015 - 7:52pm

the vast majority of club members are not going to New Paltz and a good number will be staying in the city. It would be great if a few rides were posted; I am sure they would draw a good turnout.Traffic is generally lighter because a lot of people do go away for a long weekend. Unfortunately, I will be away for the entire weekend so won't be able to lead a ride myself.

Dahon advise

Submitted by richardembry on Wed, 06/24/2015 - 8:14am

I am thinking of getting a Dahon to use for casual riding around town. Does any body have any advise on which models to  consider?

Thanks, Richard

Safe parking in Rockland ??

Submitted by Sir Roger on Tue, 06/23/2015 - 8:53pm

In an effort to spend more time in the countryside and less on the 24 mile round trip from my house to the GWB on the weekends, I have taken to strapping the bikee on the car and parking in Washington heights. Looking to extend my riding adventures north does anyone know of safe parking places up in Rockland. Is the Toga Nyack parking lot available to day riders ??

Specifically asking for Parking info here not train options.

Weekday morning B16 rides from 242/Bway?

Submitted by JFinder on Mon, 06/22/2015 - 10:59pm

Mitch Bacharach and I have been doing midweek rides from Riverdale and wonder if any other uptown types would like to join us. Tentatively the ride would start at 7 a.m. and go around the Riverdale - Dobbs Ferry - Irvington - Ardsley - Grassy Sprain area. Plenty of possible variations. Maybe 2 and a half hours.

All the details can be discussed. Let us know.

Electric Bike Rentals

Does anybody know of LBS that rents electric bikes? I have vistor with a disability, coming to town and want them to join me on a ride around the city?

Thanks for any help.

If I had two heroes in cycling, they would be...

1. Whoever invented the bike. (That credit is in dispute.)

2. Graeme Obree. Here's a trailer of a film about him being premiered this week in Edinburgh.http://www.thebikecomesfirst.com/battle-mountain-graeme-obrees-story-trailer/

This barely touches on why the man demands to be admired, but it's a start. Fair warning: It's bloody hard to break through his Scottish accent.

2014 Incentive gear arrival?

Any idea when the 2014 incentive gear we ordered earlier in the year will be arriving? Has anyone received theirs yet?

What Side of the Road to Ride on Question

Submitted by johnvic on Mon, 06/22/2015 - 8:58am

I was coming up RSD W. to the GWB and made the right onto 155th St. to go RSD, the way most every club ride goes. When you make the left onto RSD the cars are on your right. As a cyclist, shouldn't I be on the right next to the cars? That is what is done on every club ride that I've been on but I got into a little argument with a cyclist yesterday. Although I don't think he should be arguing safety when he's wearing ear buds!
