Miracle at the GWB NY side entrance ramp.

Submitted by Rmarcus on Fri, 06/26/2015 - 7:00pm

Miracle at the GWB NY side entrance ramp.
That short stretch of sidewalk just before the crazy left up the ramp has been REPAIRED. I went over the GWB 2X last night and must have just not paid attention but here what was done.

a) That Crazy long metal plate near the ramp turn that poked up and slippery when wet is no longer there. Replaced by a much smaller rectangular plate much closer to the stone wall. Unsure if this is less slippery but a great improvement IMHO.
b) The rest of bumps cracks in the sidewalk have also been repaired.

Sorry no pics, but perhaps later

Would anyone like to join a 3-day w/end trip I'm running to Philly?

Submitted by SRodetis on Fri, 06/26/2015 - 10:20am

Inexpensive trip I'm running for another bike club, to historic Philly 'hoods and environs. Bonus:  high quality hotel accommodations at low cost. And fun exploring and noshing in Philly.

The trip is about cycling, exploring and having fun in historic neighborhoods, plus scenic biking outside the city. Fully cue sheeted & mapped, with leader rides. Higher mileage options available. Here's the ride description:

Condition of Unpaved Portion of South County Trailway?

Submitted by JOlson on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 5:36pm

Has anybody ridden the southernmost portion o fthe South County trailway lately -- the part that goes through Van Courtland Park and is described on the map as "unpaved"?

How "unpaved" are we talking about, and does that mean performance hybrids (e.g., Specialized Sirrus or equivalent, with, say, 28 or 32 mm tires and no shocks) or should I have a classic old hybrid with wider tires and shock absorbers?

Thanks in advance.

Sunday July 5 Ride to PIP - Ride to Irv Schachter Memorial Bike Rack

Submitted by HSchachter on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 8:11am

I want to thank Claire Mordas for arranging a ride on Sunday, July 5 to the new memorial bicycle rack donated by the club to remember  Irv. (See ride listings for details) The club's generosity fills me with gratitude. I hope to see many people who knew Irv on the ride.

I also hope for clear weather. Does anyone remember a wetter June?
