CANCELLED - BEACH/CHURCH/ITALIAN MARKET
Saturday update - - too much slip and slide out there to be magically clear by Sunday and safe to ride anywhere in the city. CANCELLED!
Best to all,
Susan
Sighhhhhhhh, ah yes, a reality check from the weather. Looking ahead to Sunday - - here's what make sense at this point
1) We'll only ride if pavement safe . . to be determined by 9AM Sunday morn
2) ride start changed to noon, same place though. Open to all.
George's Arctic Roller ride cancelled, 1/7/17
In the interest of safety, George's Arctic Roller ride on Saturday, 1/7/17 is cancelled due to snow, extreme temps, and hazardous road conditions.
Long Beach Pizza rescheduled for 1/14
Balducci's Ride: Postponed to 1/28
Well, we hoped, we prayed . . .
But with temps in the mid 20s, windchills approaching single digits and a better than even chance of snow, it just doesn't seem to be our day.
We'll try again on the 28th. Keep your eyes peeled.

Marchand started to cycle again as an "adult" at the age of 75. He became a vegetarian last year at 104 for health reasons, I guess.
Gear question - who's using a smartphone in place of a dedicated bike computer and how's that working out?
My Garmin 705 from 2009 is on life-support. Some functions still work, but require a lot of fiddling, and battery life after many cycles has gone to near-zero. Plus the whole UX is so ancient.
I recently acquired a new Android phone, a Moto-Z Play, and have been pleased with improvements to the open-source OSMAND+ app (I think people are also happy with the ridewithgps app too, but haven't tried it). I get offline maps, including nice features like contour lines and hill shading, can download GPX for turn by turn directions, record my own rides, and these are real easy to upload to whatever platform, and so on. No complaints, other than the app learning curve is a little steep.
Announcing the 24th or 25th annual wheel building (or, if you prefer, just wheel truing) class. It's free.
Maybe it's the availability of complete wheelsets that fewer and fewer people have wanted to learn how to build a wheel so those wanting to learn just wheel truing will be accommodated this year.
Wheelbuilding class will be from 9:30 - 2:30 on a Saturday or Sunday in Jan. or Feb., the actual date to be determined by vote of those signing up. Wheelbuilders will start with their own rim, spokes, and hub and leave with their own perfectly built wheel they'll have built themselves.
Read Greg LeMond's note to the NYCC and the (then) new president's message from 25 years ago.
It's vanity, I know, but I presume to think the, then, new president's "last message," now twenty-five years old, is still relevant. http://rosenthaladvertising.com/25_yr.html
White Bike Sparkill
I just noticed a White Bike at the Tallman cut-off on 9W in Sparkill. When did this happen?
