Congestion Pricing’s Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them, Curbed

One thing New Yorkers can agree on: There’s too much traffic, and it’s someone else’s fault.

Update that A3986 (“Idaho Stop”) passed the NYS Assembly Transportation Committee last week, Codes yesterday and Rules today.  By legislative standards, this is light speed!  We now need cyclists to email Assembly Speaker Heastie to bring A3986 up for a vote in the current legislative session.

Question: Clean/lube rear hub dust cap

Submitted by isaacb on Tue, 05/30/2023 - 8:28am

Questions. One of my current bikes has a rubber boot on the non-drive side of the rear hub. The boot is squealing. Its a 15 year old bike (2006) that was barely used by its original owner and getting moderate use by me. I brushed out the seam between the hub and the boot and applied some grease. That took care of the sound for a few weeks. Now it's back and the seam is a greasy mess. I'm thinking to clean and relube it.

  1. Does the boot just pop off, or do I need to disassemble the hub with tools?
  2. What lube is appropriate here?

Thanks.

An excellent surface and a faster ride. A keeper.

No idea if it extends south of Gardiner.

There are so few B Rides listed on the weekends. Why are the ones submitted bejng approved just minutes before the ride is to start?

Incidentally, next to the bike articles list, there is an interesting piece "In Sardinia"  in which I have cycled  on 5 or 6 trips and plan to do a walking trip with Backroads this coming September
