I have started a new thread here but it’s directly related to Hank’s thread below on the Change.org’s petition on this issue, and welcome any thoughts.  The Change.org petition encourages starting with an appeal to Jim Hall, Executive Director of PIPC, but as you'll see below, that would be preaching to the choir, though the other four names listed by the petition's creator Ian Diamond, would be on target.

Salty goey substance on the GWB today

Submitted by ROrvedahl on Mon, 02/11/2019 - 6:05pm

As I crossed the GWB today, I noticed a massive amount of salt on the sidewalk - nothing unusual there.  Here's what was unusual:  by the midway point, my brakes and wheels were engulfed a grey, goey salty concoction. Very thick!  I had to stop twice to wipe the stuff off - and had to ride over to Strictly to get my bike sprayed down.

Anyone else encounter this?  Has the Port Authority come up with a new winter brew for the sidewalk?  Cuz it's...very not bike friendly.

Safe Lifespan of a Carbon Fiber Fork

Submitted by CBrown on Mon, 02/11/2019 - 11:30am

Any thoughts on whether a carbon fiber fork should be replaced after a certain number of years, or do they have indefinite useful lives?  I've heard conflicting thoughts on this, with bike shops saying 6-10 years to replace, and the manufacturer of mine saying that they can last indefinitely.

I'm leaning towards replacing my now 10 year-old, pristine fork, because I can't seem to find consensus, and dont want to risk a catastrophic failure of a part like that on the road.

Thoughts?

Availability of the Board Meeting Minutes?

Submitted by mhsimkin on Mon, 02/11/2019 - 7:19am

Hi:

When will the board meeting minutes for Nov and Dec 2018, and Jan/Feb 2019 be made available?

Would it be possible going forward to post the monthly board meeting minutes before the monthly membership meeting?  For example, the Feb 2019 minutes need to be posted before tomorrow's membership meeting.

This would give the membership that ability to ask questions of the board based upon items in that month's board minutes in a timely fashion, when the item is still fresh in the board's mind.

today's Wake Up & Smell The SIG ride -- Delayed Start Time

Submitted by BRoss on Sat, 02/09/2019 - 9:13am

We're pushing the meet-up time of the WUSS ride back to 10:00 so that folks don't have to stand outside in the parking lot at Strictly Bikes.
