Safe Lifespan of a Carbon Fiber Fork
Any thoughts on whether a carbon fiber fork should be replaced after a certain number of years, or do they have indefinite useful lives? I've heard conflicting thoughts on this, with bike shops saying 6-10 years to replace, and the manufacturer of mine saying that they can last indefinitely.
I'm leaning towards replacing my now 10 year-old, pristine fork, because I can't seem to find consensus, and dont want to risk a catastrophic failure of a part like that on the road.
Thoughts?
huge pot hole, broken sewer on 9w
anyone notice this, seems its been this way all winter, once 9w starts after coming off 505 about 1/2 mile after making the right turn onto 9w there's a very noticeable pot-hole /broken sewer cap. anyone know if this will be fixed? seems like an acicdent in the making. i always avoid it knowing where it is but it seems like someone may not be so fortunate one of these days
Availability of the Board Meeting Minutes?
Hi:
When will the board meeting minutes for Nov and Dec 2018, and Jan/Feb 2019 be made available?
Would it be possible going forward to post the monthly board meeting minutes before the monthly membership meeting? For example, the Feb 2019 minutes need to be posted before tomorrow's membership meeting.
This would give the membership that ability to ask questions of the board based upon items in that month's board minutes in a timely fashion, when the item is still fresh in the board's mind.
today's Wake Up & Smell The SIG ride -- Delayed Start Time
We're pushing the meet-up time of the WUSS ride back to 10:00 so that folks don't have to stand outside in the parking lot at Strictly Bikes.
Do consider switching to wider tires...
I switched to 42mm after riding 23 and 25mm for, well, seems like forever. The wider tires are clearly superior. Particularly on the kind of roads we have within 100 miles of here. They are smoother, more comfortable, and importantly, just as fast as the older tech, skinny tires I rode for decades. This is a no-brainer.

Watch Nasbar's and Performance's bankruptcy right before your very own eyes.
Go to each store's website. Click on their clothing. Oops. Nothing there? Well, nothing at Performance and only a pair of rain pants at Nashbar. Accessories? Same. Bikes? Yeah, some.
95 emplyees at their holding company's facility in Chapel Hill were laid off yesterday. They had 104 retail stores. All going, going, soon (March 2, it is thought) gone. 1700 employees: going, going, soon gone. This follows the approval of its bankruptcy sale last week. But, ahhh, the websites are likely to continue. However, read this, which pre-dates the bankruptcy approval.....

Any Austin, Tx cyclist transplants?
Hi All. I'm planning a move to NYC and am trying to understand the "scene" here. I currently live in Austin, Tx, which has a healthy racing communty, great group rides every day and a few bike shops that have a sort of "ski lodge" vibe as road cyclists/group rides come and go during the day.
I thought it might be interesting to see if there are any other Ausitn transplants who could compare rides/shops in Austin to similar offerings here in NYC. Of course, I welcome all input and have reviewed the NYCC rides here on the site.
NYCC's "Self-Test Table"
The D ride thread had me wondering if the club might consider adjusting the "Self Test" table in the About Rides section? In nutshell, thinking that if a time = 18mph, the table should recommend a eg. B16 (reduce by 2)
I think I'm pointing out the obvious, but while NYCC ride ratings are supposed to be based on "cruising speed" or sometimes "speed on flat roads", the self-test table is returning guidelines based on a time trial using your overall average moving speed for the whole ride.
