The C SIG is riding today!

Submitted by PHofherr on Sat, 03/23/2019 - 6:50am

The C SIG will be riding today after our Orientation. You should dress in layers as it will be cold early on and windy most of the day but somewhat warmer in the afternoon for our actual ride. If you're traveling by train to the start, please leave extra time as the service on the weekends can be quite erratic.

We'll see you there!

B SIG RIde #3 is Postponed to Sunday,

Submitted by FLeffel on Fri, 03/22/2019 - 7:52am

Due to high winds predicted for Saturday,  B SIG ride #3 is postponed to Sunday, March 24.  Same meet up time and place, same cue sheet.

Hello everyone,

There is a newly completed Columbia University building on the northwest corner of 125th and Broadway, called The Forum, where the ground floor is completely designated for public use, and there are public bathrooms.  Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The walls of the building are glass, so you can park bikes in the racks and stand on the other side of the glass wall and watch them while you take turns using the bathroom.

There is a security desk in the middle of the building, and one of the racks is directly in front of the security desk.  (South side of building - along middle of building -- revolving doors) If you are alone I think the security staff would watch your bike for you (through the glass wall) so you can visit the necessary.

A worthy cause

B16 Morning Laps in Central Park - Thursday - canceled

Submitted by LWintner on Wed, 03/20/2019 - 8:31pm

The rain forecast seems to be getting worse.  I hope to see you next week.

The rough ride plan would be to take the 8:09 AM train from Penn Station to Rockville Centre (arrives 8:44), then ride Rockville Centre->East Hampton LIRR, about 87 miles all-in on a parallel-to-(but-not-on) Sunrise Highway, then generally-along-Montauk Highway routing. The train back leaves East Hampton 3:12 PM, we would very certainly have to make that. (Next train all the way back isn't until after 10 PM.) So, brisk B-18 pace throughout, and if you're not keeping up or have a serious mechanical I/we would sadly have to drop you. So with that in mind, you'd have to be comfortable working out your way home independently.

Check out my post from last week, https://nycc.org/message-board/nycc-berkshires-weekend-may-24-27-2019-call-leaders/100218 which has our 2018 information. The Club is having some technical difficulties getting our 2019 page up. It's time to make your reservations for our weekend in the Berks!

Fellow Cyclists,

I need your help petitioning the New York Governor, Assembly, Senate and City Council to fund expansion of the George Washington Bridge paths as an extension of the Empire State Trail.

Fatality on the LIE service road. RIP David Schlichting.

I greatly regret that David Schlichting was killed in a hit and run incident, while riding on the LIE this morning. David was a good friend, and a devoted rider and leader, as well as a devoted husband. These are details from ABC7NY.com.
