B16 Morning Laps in Central Park - Thursday - canceled
The rain forecast seems to be getting worse. I hope to see you next week.
UPDATE: no longer happening - Thinking about a day-off-from-work Hamptons ride, Wednesday April 10
The rough ride plan would be to take the 8:09 AM train from Penn Station to Rockville Centre (arrives 8:44), then ride Rockville Centre->East Hampton LIRR, about 87 miles all-in on a parallel-to-(but-not-on) Sunrise Highway, then generally-along-Montauk Highway routing. The train back leaves East Hampton 3:12 PM, we would very certainly have to make that. (Next train all the way back isn't until after 10 PM.) So, brisk B-18 pace throughout, and if you're not keeping up or have a serious mechanical I/we would sadly have to drop you. So with that in mind, you'd have to be comfortable working out your way home independently.

Fatality on the LIE service road. RIP David Schlichting.
I greatly regret that David Schlichting was killed in a hit and run incident, while riding on the LIE this morning. David was a good friend, and a devoted rider and leader, as well as a devoted husband. These are details from ABC7NY.com.
The Knot
Feels like there's considerably more traffic last few weeks. Anyone have any ideas? Is there construction near-by or is this a reaction to the Tappan Zee?

Once again, I am asking our board to create a standing committee on bicycle advocacy
What is the problem? We have members who are doing this on their own but not working with our board and not under the aegis of NYCC.
With the important issue at hand of organizing and supporting the 7 Lakes Drive connector, so important to our members and the cycling community, we are feeling our way in the dark. With a committee established we could have been one step ahead of the game in matters political, inter-bike clubs/organizations, and intra-club. Do we really need to scramble to get the NYCC board officially to recognize this effort? There should be a liasion from the committee on the board, perhaps non-voting, to keep both sides on the same page. We should be ahead of the curve on every initiative that touches on our members.
NYCC Berkshires Weekend May 24-27, 2019 -- call for leaders
Leaders are needed for our Memorial Day Weekend in the Berkshires.
Here's last year's NYCC web page: https://nycc.org/events/berkshires2018 This contains lodging information and general information about the weekend. It has been updated--see the homepage.
Here's a link to 2018's MB thread, which contains more information about the weekend and in particular about the trains. https://nycc.org/message-board/berkshires-weekend-may-25-28-2018/86551
This year we have reservations on several trains to and from the Berkshires. We still need a few train leaders.
