Transport to Bear Mountain Classic

Submitted by diegosanaz on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 3:23pm

Hello,

I'm Diego, I'm new to the US and just became a member of the NYCC and got my nice and shiny USA Racing Lisence.

I'm repeating the post since for some reason when I try to see it it only shows a blue page.

I will be moving to the US (Brooklyn) by end of April, I'm very interested in going to the Bear Mountain Classic in May 11th. However, I don't know how to get there. I won't be buying a car anytime soon. Does anybody now any king of transport service from Manhattan or Brooklyn to where the race takes place?

Thanks!

Ride to Bear Mountain Classic

Hello,

I'm Diego and will be moving to NY in two weeks. Very excited about that. I'm already a member of the NYCC and now and also got a shiny cat 5 license for racing.

I'm interested in going to the CRCA Jamison Bear Mountain Classic. I'm just worried about how to get there. I doubt that I will get a car right at my arrival and I don't know anybody yet to get a ride. Does anyone know if there is a company or something that provides transport services from Manhattan or Brooklyn to the race and back?

Thanks!

"Independent" bike mechanic / the etiquette of buying components online

Submitted by serginho on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 12:58pm

Hi there,

I want to upgrade some components on my bike, but the price quoted by the store are so much higher than what I'm seeing online. So two questions:

Is there such a thing as an "independent" bike mechanic, that I could hire to do the installing for me? Any recommendations?

And what is the etiquette of buying the components online and bringing them to your local shop to have them installed? Is that frowned upon?

Thanks!

Sergio

Looks like it won't be ready until the second half of the year, maybe even as late as September (or later):

NYCC Facebook page -- what's the status?

I just visited the regular (nonmember) FB page for NYCC, and unless I'm missing something, nothing's been added or posted for almost 3 months?

The benefits of having riders in a group talk about themselves.

I begin every ride by asking each rider to introduce him-/herself—last names as well as first—and to answer a question inteded, as I say to elicit the entire personality of the rider so we have something to talk about to one another other than Campy v. Shimano and gear inches.
