Tubeless Tires Pros and Cons

Submitted by mhsimkin on Thu, 01/09/2020 - 12:14pm

Hi:

I know I'm risking starting a war, but....

I'm trying to decide if I should convert to tubeless.  I have two bikes and both haves wheels that are tubeless ready, but I run them with tubes. Currently, one bike is on the smart trainer with the wheels stored away, and the other is awaiting it's next outdoor ride.  I typically swap bikes about every 6 months.

For the outdoor ready bike it could be 1 - 2 weeks between outdoor rides.

B15-STS coleaders needed

Submitted by GoJaqs on Thu, 01/09/2020 - 10:30am

B-STS is 16mph and up, C-STS is 13mph resulting in a gap for mid speed riders.

I volunteered as a B-STS Coleader and am looking for other coleaders. Anyone interested can contact me or Michael Roth. We'd appreciate the help.

Dunkin Donuts on Piermont in Cresskill - OK for cyclists?

Submitted by isaacb on Sun, 01/05/2020 - 8:36pm

Hi:

I've used the DD in Demarest (next to the Greek restaurant) for snack & pit stops and things have always worked out well there. I noticed that there's a Dunkin on the northbound side of Piermont Rd & Broadway in Cresskill (south of Demarest) & would consider that for an alternate. Anyone have exprience coming in there with cyclists? Are they OK?

"Bike trap" towns?

Submitted by isaacb on Sun, 01/05/2020 - 7:09pm

Is there a consolidated list of the towns and villages we typically ride through and the traps they set rules they have for cyclists?

Piermont, of course, is legendary for their scrupulous enforcement of traffic laws, plus single file, as pertains to cyclists.

I've noticed a few towns along 501 that have "single file" signs (overriding NJ law that allows 2 up on multi-lane roads.)

Alpine is zealous about preventing the carnage that a bicycle outside a rack might wreak.

What others? Can this be a permanent part of leader/rider resources?

I guess we won't have that pit stop for a while, although it's hard to tell from the photos exactly what building was destroyed. Fortunately it seems no one was injured.

Hi All,

Just thinking, feeling a bit melancholy as the old year – old decade -  winds down and the new one comes into view.

New York, NY, it’s a helluva town.  The entire world comes to Rockefeller Center every year to celebrate the Christmas Holiday nearby the most glorious Christmas Tree in all the land.  Days later, right down the street from that wondrous Christmas Tree, all the world’s eyes turn to the big ball as it descends on Times Square ushering in the brand new year.  This year Jody and I sauntered down Fifth Avenue on Christmas Eve.  The windows were magic, the bright colors and lights spectacular, and the myriad languages we heard along the way was as wonderful as it was amazing.
