Photos for the front page

Submitted by JReaven on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 10:21pm

The way that the photos for the front page work is that the website pulls one photo from each of four events that we promote to the front page. However, the events don't have to be what we would think of as events such as a meeting or dinner or SIG series, or ENY, or all-class ride, or club weekend, or skating party...although they certainly could be.

Staten Island Merit Badge Ride - 11/21

Submitted by MTownsend on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 5:36pm

This won't be one of our usual SI climb-a-thons. The focus for this abbreviated ride will be to get everyone in the group successfully up Oakland Terrace. For those that have previously conquered this little gem you know it's not as easy as it sounds. We'll meet at 8:15AM outside the Whitehall Ferry terminal in Lower Manhattan and catch the 8:30AM ferry to SI. If all goes well we should be able to catch the 11:30AM ferry back from St. George. That will give us plenty of time to be home for the start of the J-E-T-S game. This will be probably be our last chance to get over to SI this year before the weather turns so you don't want to miss this opportunity to earn your SI Merit Badge.

RECALL: Geoman Gear / MAGIC SHINE Battery, STOP USING THIS BATTERY

Submitted by Rmarcus on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 1:44pm

To Our Valued Geomangear Customers,

Geomangear temporarily has stopped selling Magicshine lightsets due to our concerns regarding the safety, quality, and performance of Magicshine's lithium-ion battery packs sold by Geomangear between July 2009 and November 2010. We have determined that these Magicshine battery packs do not meet Geomangear's high expectations regarding product safety, quality, and performance. We have notified both the manufacturer of Magicshine lightsets and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission that Geomangear intends to voluntarily recall all Magicshine battery packs sold by Geomangear.

Hello from Jen Rudin, your brand new VP of Programming.

Did anyone attend the Zen Bike Store event last night with a speaker from Descente? If so, I am curious to get some feedback on how the speaker and event fared.

You can reply here, or feel free to email [email protected]

Thanks

treating injuries

Submitted by HDershowitz on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 12:49pm

from RoadBikeRider:More than 30 years ago, Dr. Gabe Mirkin coined the term RICE for the treatment of athletic injuries. It stands for rest, ice, compression, elevation. Now a study from the Cleveland Clinic shows that one of these recommendations -- applying ice to reduce swelling -- actually delays healing by preventing the body from releasing a hormone called IGF-1.

Old bookmarks may not work! - Webmaster

Submitted by JReaven on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 8:24am

If you are having trouble seeing last night's release of the new site, you need to remove old suffixes from your bookmarks and re-bookmark just plain http://www.nycc.org. There shouldn't be anything like /index.html as a suffix to the address in your bookmarks. Get rid of the suffixes. I know that if you can't see the site, you can't read this post. But, you may stumble upon the solution yourself but not know why ... so this post may be of some use.

Faster server for NYCC Website - Jim R Webmaster

Submitted by JReaven on Thu, 11/18/2010 - 7:30am

As of late last night, our website has been switched over to a much faster server with more processing capacity and more RAM. Now, pages load faster, and we should no longer have problems with time-outs, and the menus flutter less or hopefully not at all. The database that contains your information such as rides and posts was moved late last night so they should be up-to-date. However, the files were moved on Tuesday so that we could test on Wednesday. That means that if any file was uploaded on Wednesday, such as a photo for someone's profile, it will need to be uploaded again. It is possible that there weren't any. We are aware of other enhancements needed. This move puts us one big step toward being able to get started on more improvements over the coming weeks and months.
