Come ride in the Sierra Nevada mountains this summer!
I would like to invite members of NYCC to come and join Alta Alpina bicycle club's annual ride, Riding the Wild Sierra on June 11,2011. The ride is in the same vicinity as the famous Death Ride, in the beautiful eastern Sierra mountains and near Lake Tahoe. Please see the website altaalpina.org/challenge for details, or you can email me at [email protected]. I am a "bi-coastal" NYCC member and Marketing Director for the Wild Sierra ride.

New "out of bounds" calendar on the website
Hi everyone-
I thought it would be useful to put together a working calendar of "out of bounds" rides in the NY area, as well as favorite rides further "out of bounds," for use by the NYCC membership.
Our website currently has a link under Bicycling Events Calendar to bikeride.com (News & Info;links), which includes sponsored rides throughout the country, but is not particularly thorough for our area.
I've started an Out of Bounds Calendar that will be included in the eWeekly and is on the website located under the 2011 Mileage Log (Rides tab). The calendar currently has about 30 rides listed.
Is Master Bike open today?
I hate to take my bike on the subway, to find that Imbert has taken the day off. The phone message says open at 10:30, the website says open at 10, and no one answers the phone
FS/Free: Bike clothes, pedals, shoe covers, light, etc
Ok folks, next stop's Craigs list, but you guys get dibs:
1. Used Canari wind shell, neon yellow. Says "Large," but fits more like a women's medium. Extremely light and packable. Good shape. No bells/whistles, except for a soft microfiber lined collar. Free.
2. Crank Brothers Acid 1 pedals (spd) including cleats. Black with brilliant blue springs. Like new condition-- used once for maybe an hour. (Decided I'd stick with my trusty toe clips :) These are mountain bike pedals, they have a bit of a platform, just enough to make you feel secure, but not big enough to look weird on a road bike. Very cool looking! And light. (http://www.rei.com/product/768254)
MSRP $99, I paid $53, yours for $40 obo.
FS: Pika Packworks EEP Standard Bike Case
- SOLD.
Thanks for playing.
Community meeting before the CP community meeting
The nycc membership consists of people from many backgrounds. We have Judges, many lawyers and lawyer wannabes, scooter cops, friends of cops, racers and mellow commuter, runners and dog owners.
I’m thinking we can use the MB to vet out the issues in order to help the nycc reps before the meeting. I’m sure whoever is going to the meeting doesn’t want to be bombarded with emails, so lets play it out here.
I’m guessing the NYPD’s recent cp ticket blitz is to selectively single out the lycra crowd.
But why?
• People with $5,000 bikes and ride in the middle of winter have deep pockets will likely just pay the fine and not deal with taking time off at work. The city needs additional funds and NYPD lost the case in court when the Critical Mass people sued.
NYCC Membership Discount Question
I justed called SBR in Manhattan, they currently offer only a 5% discount on bikes, not the 10% as posted on the website. Is this true or are they trying to pull a fast one? Anyone else have similar problems?

B SIG preview ride - Jan. 23 - canceled
Given the ice/snow on the roads and predicted cold, we've decided to cancel. (And, we echo Harry Woods' sentiment - "rats!") We'll see if we might be able to work something out for February. Otherwise, we hope to see you during the B SIG.
Regards,
Linda, Beth, Mae, and Kim
Die Hards on Ice.
With slush on the streets now and 16 degrees at 9am tomorrow, maybe we should consider ice skating around CP instead of riding. Wonder if CP police would ticket for skating through red lights?
In any case, another saturday on the spinning bikes instead of on the road.
cancelled again. rats.
