SPAM blocker email addresses block NYCC
If the email address that you provided in your membership profile is an email with spam blocker, our system can't fill out one of those requests to be allowed to send you email. If you want to receive notices of renewal, receipts, confirmations of SIG participation, and other system-generated mail from NYCC, please either put a non-blocked email address into your profile, or, if you can, add nycc.org as a permitted domain from which to receive email. Thanks.
Renewal backlog finished
The Active.com renewals that must be done manually, and a few that had been problematical from PayPal, were all renewed manually last night. If you had problems joining or signing up with a SIG, I suggest that you try again now. Thanks for your patience.
Wake up and smell the SIG- CANCELLED!
We'll try again next week...
If the weather permits, and we actually get to ride tomorrow, here's what to expect from the slower group...
The ride is listed as an "A", and it will be an "A"... more or less. At this time of the year, and on a pre-SIG introductory ride, the pace will be around 16mph. Like this short series, the SIG itself will start slow, and build mileage and pace from week to week... we don't (and can't) start teaching techniques and skills at the top speed level.
The WUAST-SIG rides will be fun, instructive, and a way to get some miles into you before the SIGs begin.
Cheers,
George Arcarola

More red light enforcement...
A friend of mine blogs about being caught in Brooklyn:

...and raises the spectre of TICKET QUOTAS for the cops.
I can't really argue with the prosecution of things like right-on-red and "Idaho Stops" (when they're not legal here), but there are some parts of town where every intersection, as close as 200 feet from another, is traffic-signaled. NYC is a good candidate for official exceptions to these laws for bicycles. That would be a good first step, because otherwise enforcement isn't a problem for most responsible cyclists.
Beyond that, it's the same refrain:
* The police should focus on the infractions that make the streets unsafe for cyclists before they enforce nuisance laws against them.
Lobbying for NYCC and cyclists
Has the NYCC board considered how this organization might strengthen its role as a lobbying force for the interests of its members? Perhaps in conjunction with other cycling organizations in the city? This is not to criticize in any way the efforts of those who represented the NYCC at the Central Park Conservancy Roundtable, I just wonder if there is a need to do more.

cycling in Moscow
Anyone cycle in Russia recently? I remember Carol W and Adrienne B rode from Moscow to St Petersburg several years ago, but how about in past year or two and in Moscow specifically? Are there good bike shops to rent from? Bike tour organizers?
B-Sig sign up not working
Am an NYCC member and find that I am unable to do the sign up online though I am logged into my account. The webpage says that the 2011 B-sig signup is available to me but when I click on it, I am taken to the B-sig info page where there is no place to sign up. Does anyone know what I need to do?
Tried emailing the B-Sig contact email on the page - [email protected] - but my email bounced back saying the contact does not exist!
Thanks,
Sree
