Giveaway - 650c tires & tubes

Submitted by CWaaser on Sun, 02/13/2011 - 4:38pm

Does anyone else in the Club use 650c wheels? I have enough extra tires to last more than a lifetime. I would gladly give away 2 sets of unused Michelin Pros (650cx23), still in package. One pair is "Ironman Triathlon" (red stripes) the other is "Race" (black on black). Also several new 650c Presta tubes with extra long valve stems (60mm) - they're really too long for my only minimally-aero wheels.

Additionally, I have about a dozen unused compressed air cannisters and an adapter, if anyone would like these. I prefer a pump.

Bring on Bike Lanes by Colin Beavan

Excerpts:

"Much of the heat in the bike war has been taken by Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, who is often portrayed as the mastermind behind the city's new protected bike lanes. From Columbus Avenue in Manhattan to Prospect Park West in Brooklyn, she has been demonized, with community activists claiming that her bike lanes are unwanted.

I got a ticket...

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Sat, 02/12/2011 - 8:40pm

... in Queens... I earned it, ran two lights at the same intersection... I won't mention the officers name, because he'd probably get into trouble for being courteous, professional and polite to a cyclist (or terrorist/anarchist if you prefer)... we talked for about 10 minutes... I knew what I did, and he wasn't delivering a lecture about how concerned with "safety" the NYPD is, though he DID tell me to stay safe as we parted company...

DOT -- How to Get Them to Address the CP Issue

Submitted by RTorok on Sat, 02/12/2011 - 10:05am

After having seen the message board debriefing from those who attended the Feb 1st meeting hosted by the CP Conservatory, I was wondering if the DOT has responded or begun addressing our concerns?

A friend insightfully pointed out recently that:

- the DOT is in the delicate position of not having cyclists take a unified position against their city cycling policy that is already under wider attack.
- the city has to be very careful about ticketing delivery guys on bikes as many are not legally in the country, and stopping them would burden the city with a much greater problem

I was wondering if these two considerations can be utilized to get the attention of the DOT to address our CP ticketing issue.

saturday 9w report

Submitted by crosscountrymule on Sat, 02/12/2011 - 8:56am

as of 7:45am, this is a cell phone text report from my friend who's already at nyack:

friend: road almost all dry, just patches of snow. mostly around the bridge pillars, underpasses and downhills into piermont.

almost about three bottles worth of broken glass between alpine police t intersection and kiku restaurant.

ash and tweed dry except for one false flat on tweed ice all the way through for about two feet.

me: so 9w overall safe?

friend: yeah except that glass and small patches of ice there are no hazards

plus it's warm as f all

if anyone has a report on the cops on riverside or any other info, please share with all.

thanks and be safe today.

p.s. what kind of html code uses "cite" and not "i" for italics?

VOTE PLEASE

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Sat, 02/12/2011 - 8:36am

I will be wearing the new club jersey this summer... proudly.

Although the jersey I voted for probably will not win, ALL the designs are great... OK, four of the designs are great... Anyway, right now, the leading jersey has around 80 or so votes. With around 2000+/- members, that means that 4% of the membership are deciding what jersey I will wear on Memorial Day. Only 4%... I'd rather have a much higher percentage of the club telling me how to dress!!

Please VOTE... today... BEFORE 6pm.

Thanks,
George
