Morning training

Submitted by DPols on Wed, 02/16/2011 - 1:53pm

With CP now apparently off limits for training/fitness rides before work what are other people in manhattan doing. The only thing that seems viable to me is greenway to GWB to 9W or River Road. Any other variations that would work in a 2hour time window? Is the greenway quiet enough in the early morning to maintain 18-20mph throughout?

"Welcoming the new normal: Why bike lanes matter to our future" by Bicycle Habitat's Charlie McCorkell

Excerpt:

"Change is hard – even when it’s inevitable. Through the past few years, as all New Yorkers adjust to NYC streets changing to be more bike-friendly, the conversation around this evolution always reveals a noteworthy occurrence: Go to any meeting or rally about bike lanes, such as those uptown or in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park West, and there is rarely a citizen under 50 opposing the lane, though you will see many of us gray heads mixed in with the pro-bike lane folks.

NYCC Board Meetings Are they open or closed?

Submitted by MGewirtz on Wed, 02/16/2011 - 10:19am

Based on what I have been reading on the Message Board, it appears that the NYCC does not have a standing committee to develop, in conjunction with the NYCC Board, proposals and positions on bicycle issues, and make plans to move them forward with public officials. I am sure the Board has a lot of issues to deal with and perhaps a committee for bicycle issues could assist the Board in this area because a lot of work needs to be done to develop positions, coordinate with other groups and mount an effective advocacy campaign. The kinds of changes people have been talking about on the Message Board require the organization of groups to promote favorable political action. The monthly meetings at Annie Moores are not structured as working meetings.

Update on Central Park situation please

Submitted by GYang on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 8:24pm

Can someone on the BOD or otherwise in-the-know give us an update on what kinds of discussions with any policy makers (if any) are going on about the Central Park situation and what the tone of those discussion has been?

Are those discussions at all promising or just falling on deaf ears.

I have read what many posters have written but I thought we would benefit from hearing the official version from people who have presumably had formal discussions with the policy makers who can make a difference.

Many thanks.
