Bob Mionske's "Bicycling & the Law" (2007)

Every cyclist should read this book.  I have an extra copy that I'd like to put into circulation amongst the NYCC.

"Death" of a "Ride Leader"

Submitted by RCiardullo on Sat, 05/21/2011 - 1:30pm

Okay, so no one died, but I am done "leading" rides! I put lead in quoatations since one is really not a ride leader if no one else is on the ride.

I posted about five rides so far this season, and not one person ever turned out. I have waited at the GWB, the statue, the info booth... I have submitted my rides, posted messages about the rides and bumped the messages to the top for maximum exposure, but the results were always the same.

Most were listed at an A21 pace, so I ask; is the club really geared towards C14 to A19 riders with A21 level riders organizing elsewhere? Any suggestions as to where to find A21 groups without joining a team?

Lance, Doping and 60 Minutes Revelations

Submitted by RCiardullo on Sat, 05/21/2011 - 1:02pm

For all those still holding onto the "Landis and Hamilton have no credability" mantra, chew on this one; George Hincapie has admitted to both his and Armstrong's doping! While I am a fan of Lance, I am also realistic. All the top guys cheated, that's why when one rider gets caught he believes he is innocent; innocent of doing anything the others are not also doing.

What's a bazooka?

Submitted by JFinder on Fri, 05/20/2011 - 10:24pm

In the Road ID commercial, Bob Roll says all you need to take with you on a ride is "Helmet, shoes, bazooka and Road ID."  What is he talking about?

Weather forecast looks promising so far (check Long Branch, Browns Mills, Philadelphia) with a slight chance of rain but only 0.01 - 0.02" forecast.

If you're going to meet us in Newark at 7:20 AM, you need to inform me so that I know to look for you.

The new stretch of bike path north of Carmel?

Submitted by April on Fri, 05/20/2011 - 4:12pm

Does anyone know how far the new section of bike path north of Carmel goes?

I found no information about its completion. But I can see the path stretches beyond what I can walk. Some old pages indicates it goes from Carmel to Southeast. If so, it would be perfect for catching the train back to the city after doing the South/North county trailway...

Can anyone confirm?
