August multi-day ride in Colorado

Submitted by FannyB on Sat, 08/13/2011 - 3:04pm

Hi !

This is on a very short notice but who knows ... I need to find 3 riders to put together a group for a supported ride from the 22nd to the 28th (dates and length are somewhat flexible) in Colorado (or in the great parks). Ideally: Equivalent level of B17 - A23 and ~ 60-100 miles a day. Budget (excl. airfare) seems to be from $1700 (camp) to $2800 (inns). I've looked several tour operators; Escape Adventures and Trek Travel seem to be pretty well rated. Alternatively, happy to get your advice if you know any  other good tour operators or providers of self-guided tour services (i.e. would just need a shuttle to transfer my luggage from pint to point).

Let me know if ready to jump in on the last minute !

Thanks !

iPhone apps for road biking?

Submitted by Wsun on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 9:16pm

Hi all,

I heard there are quite good iphone apps for biking which functions as a GPS. So all you need to do is just to mount your iPhone to handlebar. Has anyone here tried that?

Thanks in advance,

Susan

Clipping into old Time sport pedals

Submitted by RFranco on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 4:41pm

I have done the best I could cleaning off my 1985? Bianchi. Gone are an inch of dirt and grease. I tried to put on year 2000 pedals, but it seems that the crank threads are different.  I was able to install my old Time Sport pedals. And I have the original Time shoes with the cleats attached.  It is a good thing I save all my old bike parts.  However, I tried clipping in and I can't do it.  Help! How does one clip into old (mid 1980s) Time pedals?  I have no problem with Look or Speedplay. What's different?  Do I need to adjust the pedal?

Thanks!!!!

Route Question: Croton-on-Hudson to NYC

Submitted by andrewsmeltz1 on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 2:07pm

I'm planning to preview the course for an upcoming race i'm doing that begins/ends in Croton-on-Hudson.  I would like to ride back into the city from there, but couldn't find a ride in the library with that specific route.  I was able to find one that goes north from NYC to Tarrytown.  My questions are:

1) Is Route 9 heading south from Croton-on-Hudson to Tarrytown rideable the whole way?  If not, does anyone have an alternative?

GWB and toll hike

Submitted by cbike17 on Thu, 08/11/2011 - 11:40pm

Most of you allready heard of the toll hike, I persume for the George Washington Bridge.

The given reason is that of necessary repairs , to replace the suspension cables.

Well get ready for the north walkway and 150 + steps combined, if they close the south walkway for the cable replacement.

I'll start look for some more walkable bike shoes, any input on that is welcomed.
