Storage near Central Park

Submitted by dahski on Mon, 08/15/2011 - 7:50am

I think people have asked the same question in the past, but didn't come across anything current.  I was hoping to find a place hopefully near Central Park where I could store my bike closeby and be able to train.  Does anyone know of any good spots?

Anyone know if Mead Street, north of Ward Pound Ridge County Park and north of 35 (Old Post Road) and south of 121 (Grant Road), is hard pack or paved?

.

I saw her Friday on Queens Boulevard at 40th  Street.  She was going as fast as the cars.  It was electrifying.  It also made me a little anxious.  After all, Queens Boulevard is known as the Boulevard of Death.

I've seen Rob Marcus flying down the Boulevard, but his hands are on the handlebars, not raised above his head in exhiliration.

In Central Park, my perception is that the runners are in agony, the cyclists appear neutral or determined, and the rollerblades always seem happy.

What is it about rollerblading?

Are there rollerblades that a person with flat, wide feet could wear without being in extreme pain?

Help with Google Maps

Submitted by MGewirtz on Sat, 08/13/2011 - 4:23pm

I am directionally challenged so I could use some help or advice.  I was looking for a route from the GWB to Mountain Lakes, NJ.  I am trying to find a route so I won't get lost or end up on a road that is not suitable for biking.  In looking at Google Maps (for bikes) there are three separate routes listed.  They arre generally the same with some variations.  Does anyone know how to interpret this.  Is the first listed route the "safest"?  How do I know which one of the choices would be best?  I have come across this on several occasions where Google gives more than one choice, but have not been able to figure out which one is the most appropriate.  Thanks for any suggestions.  MIGb
