Submitted by DRosenberg on Fri, 01/27/2012 - 2:00pm
Anyone want to do river road, bradley, tweed on sunday? Let's say 8 am Grant's tomb.

Please send an e-mail to [email protected] if you are joining us for dinner ($20.00) at the Feb. meeting. Please put "Dinner at the Feb. meeting" in the subject line (and of course change the month as we move forward throughout the year). We have to give a "head count" to Annie Moore's, so that they know how many of us are dining. I really appreciate your cooperation. Thanks very much, Eden Weiss, VP of Programs

New to Cycling, New to NYCC, -- Need Tons of Advice!!!

Submitted by Moss55 on Thu, 01/26/2012 - 12:34am

Hi everyone!  I'm excited to say that I just finished becoming a member of NYCC and am ecstatic to be a part of the group.

That being said I'm in desperate need of advice.  So I'm a tubby 26 year old guy trying to get back in shape for the first time since high school.  I've spent the last several years going through graduate school and eating (forgive the sterotype) doritos on the couch and now that I'm finished, I find myself with more time and a gutteral need to do something special with my life.  For this reason, a friend (a marathon runner...the jerk) and I have decided we want to make a cross country ride to at least have one big adventure before settling into life with families and kids and the whole nine yards.

A petition NOT to sign!

Submitted by HSchiffman on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 8:45pm

Whether this is the same group who was seeking to have the "Old Put" in Van Cortlandt Park surfaced with "stone dust" or not, this push is definitely not in our interests. They do not want the southern termius of a multiuse path Old Putnam/Westchester County Trailways, which extends from NYC to Brewster, paved.

The name of the group/petition is, Save the Putnam Trail.

The address of the sender of the petition request to me is:

Kosher Chinese Orange Climbing: B-17+ for 1/29

Submitted by DHudes on Wed, 01/25/2012 - 6:43pm

Kosher Chinese Orange Climbing is a 50 mile B-17+ ride I've listed for this Sunday 1/29 departing 9:30 AM from the Eleanor Roosevelt statue and returning via PATH from Newark. The rider cap is set at 6 because our lunch stop is a small place.

This ride features riding through three university campuses: Montclair State U. (a climb with a stop for coffee available); Seton Hall U. (a moderate rise) ; and New Jersey Institute of Technology - Newark (flat to downhill).

Time and interest of the group permitting, we have the option to add about 3 miles round-trip for the climb up, around and through Garrett Mountain Reserve (the route has to pass by the entrance anyway).

As most everyone knows, a major a change is coming live on our streets this summer when Bike Share becomes a reality.

In preparation, DOT is hosting a series of important Community Board workshops in the next weeks to further shape the program and collect feedback about kiosk location.

DOT would be pleased, and we would benefit, to see our members attend their own particular Community Board workshop, since we know the lay of the land from two wheels better than most.

For Sale: My ride leader wind vest. Proceeds donated to Kids Ride Club

Submitted by RRosenthal on Tue, 01/24/2012 - 3:49pm

You'll see the new NYCC apparel awards for ride leaders somewhere on our Website. I don't want my wind vest. (The "Ride Leader" designation on it strikes me as a bit vainglorious, at least on my back.)

I'll sell it to you for $60 with the proceeds to be donated to Ed Fishkin's Kids Ride Club. Tell me what size you want and I'll order it in your size.
